I wish I new, my husband left me and our 2 kids. And all of a sudden he has left his job and has tons of money. I would like to know how he got it and if we are entitled to half of it. As when we we sold our home, and split the assets...there actually weren't any after debts were paid...........sorry, not really answer!

I don't know what state you are in but i don't think she will get everything (you will get all the bills). Serious, most states try to split the assets and debts equally. Now if either of you can prove the debt or asset was prior to marriage that should not be part of the divorce. The other question is why did she leave. The best advise I can give is file first. Get a lawyer. If you cant afford a lawyer most courts have self help centers in which you can do your own divorce.

unfortunately, you cant. Most states will award at least 50% to the wife, including the children and with them the house, unless you can provide hard evidence of child or drug abuse. Your best bet , as hard as this will be, is to sit down as friends and work out everything, remembering compromise in divorce goes a long way, and its a whole lot cheaper and the judges love it. Leave to the courts to decide and you will lose big time, especially if you were the breadwinner. sorry about the divorce and good luck

First, consult an attorney. Second, go through mediation. That's the mediator's job. Do you have kids? What state are you in? Those will have all pressing issues.

she can't get everything, but if you live in a community property state, she will get half.

hopefully next time you'll choose a more suitable life partner so you don't have to go through this stress again.
