Everbody are individuals. It's like why don't we have just one type of bank. Someone had a different method or thought to make banking better. The same with religions. Each one is different. They may pray to one God but their method of teaching it makes the difference.

I"ve always wondered this myself. I've read thru the bible and never found anything relating to different religions and denominations such as baptist, wesleyan etc.
Oh yes, I do remember the mention of 'john the baptist' and this references to him as a 'baptizer'. I have not read anything about following 'baptizing' as a religion.
All the bible says is just to follow Jesus. It does not mention different denominations within the same religion. Man made these, not God.
I have always felt that if all people were all together in this, that everyone would get along better.
In the south, the races are mostly divided in churches. Whites go to their own, blacks go to their own. This is changing slowly. Some people here still think it's wrong for races to mix in churches, but I feel it would help everyone get along better.

Because man is drawn to seperation like moths to a flame, both to their pwn peril. God recognizes only one body or people, his own.
Divisions within this body are not condoned by him.
In a word "pride" - our way is the right way.

an analogy is here : there is one arithmetic sum. some people use concrete objects like pencils / seeds / fruits etc to count and then arrive at the answer. another uses his fingers to count and answer. yet another puts tally marks on a sheet of paper and arrive at the solution. yet another makes mental calculation and answers. answer is the same, but the route taken to arrive at the answer is different.
different modes appeal to different people according to their level of understanding or according to their taste of the subject. hence the birth of many religions and many religious heads who interpret those religions in different ways to appeal to different people and bring them to the path of righteousness.

People fell inlove with the messengers alone (and named religions after them) instead of the message which is the same as any other without all the politics involved.

Because people believe only what they want to. They chose the religion that makes the most sense to them.
