I've been on the shot for awhile, almost a year. How long on average will it take for me to get pregnant? I've heard that after the shot it could make getting pregnant harder. Any thoughts?

Yes, trying to conceive after being on the shot, can be a lot harder. This is because as with any hormonal contraception, it alters the sensitive balance of hormones in a woman's body, that causes the woman to ovulate. After the woman finishes having the shot, her body then has to have time to regulate itself, and sometimes even ovulation must be restored. However, as each woman is different, there is no 'average' time that it will take a woman to become pregnant after coming off the shot, because we all respond to different hormones and chemicals in a different fashion.

However, I'm going to show you a list of the liklihood of a normal couple, with an average rate of fertility conceiving in different time frames. Hopefully this will be of some help to you.

Most women have a 15 to 25 percent chance of getting pregnant during their cycle.
Nearly 50 percent of couples conceive during the first 3 months.
About 75 percent of couples conceive during the first 6 months.
Up to 90 percent of couples conceive during the first year.

I'm going to include the link to a trying to conceive forum that I think you might find useful. It's full of supportive women with boundless knowledge about these issues. There are many women there, who are trying to conceive after being on the shot as well. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

what the shot does is make a thick lining of something that prevents an egg dropping in to the uterus... that prevents you from getting pregnant...very ones body reacts differently so there is no way of saying how long it can take ... on average it takes any where from a month up to year... but if you had a baby before its easier to get pregnant again than it is to get pregnant the first time... they also say that if you been on any birth control for too long of a time your ovaries can get use to not ovulating.. so it is always good to give your body a break from birth control to get your reproductive system going again...
good luck

* tip...
you normally ovulate 14 days after you started your period...
if you get to work on day 11 through day 17.. you will increase your chances of getting pregnant..
to prevent pregnancy you avoid days 11 though 17...

hope this helps...

I was on the shot, then switched to the patch, during the switch it happened......baby number three! So, it could happen really soon, or it may not happen for six months to a year or so, it depends on your body.
