To all you poor helpless liberals out there - President Bush's veto has simply confirmed his intention NOT to let FEDERAL money become involved in what he (and most Americans) consider a barbaric coincidence: the use of human embryonic stem cell, harvested from abortions, to be used for research. He has NOT made the research illegal....repeat....stem cell research is NOT ILLEGAL, just, as of now, no Federal money will go to research. Here's a question to ponder: if it so positive, and the potential for embryonic sc research is so high - where are all the private investors? Where are all the private research institutes? I';; tell you where - they know that the "reports" you keep hearing (from Planned Parenthood, etc) are all bogus, and that other lines and sources of stem cells are PREFERABLE to human fetal.
I get a real kick out of all the bleeding hearts who are SURE that there is a cure for something - but then where is the private money? If they are so sure - let them drum up some support from private sources.

I say "right on!" Federal funds shouldn't be used to fund what is essentially reckless, unsubstantiated research. Stem-cell research is held up by the far left as a virtual panacea, guaranteed to cure everything from cancer to hangnails, but it's really just a pie-in-the-sky pipe dream, for which no real evidence of its beneficial aspects exists. Plus, at a time when the left is losing the debate on abortion--i.e., legalized genocide--this issue is just another way of dancing around the pro-abortion argument. I think, in fact, contrary to their arguments, that if the bill had become law, it could have opened the door to the practice of growing embryos exclusively for stem-cell harvesting
--a possibility I'm sure the liberals anticipated with glee.

Stem cell research offers great hope to some otherwise hopeless people. I received a letter from Christopher Reeves before he died asking for a donation to support such research. He felt that one day spinal cord injuries could be repaired with stem cells. It was about the only hope he and others like him had left. Wrong choice Mr President.

My son was born with a major heart defect but I can't imagine sacrificing other human life to benefit my son, especially when they have come up with nothing with embryonic cells.Look at the progress they are making with adult cells and cord blood that has viable stem cells with out the need of creating life only to kill it.

My best friend is paraplegic. That should let you know how I feel. Stem Cell research could really help her.

I would say that Bush didn't read the legislation since it only addressed the issue of embryos that are already being distroyed.
It isn't an abortion issue. We are past the abortion issue. That issue occured before the embryo was made. So I don't understand why people think this is an abortion issue.

He is so stupid. He's so preoccupied with religious stuff he forgets that stem cells might someday help a paralyzed person to walk. Or a blind person to see. What an idiot!

i, personally, have no problem with the veto. these are human lives that are being taken away. i find it sick that people are just growing human embryos to use as body parts for our gain. and i don't want any hate mail saying "this can help people. its people like you that prevent people who are paralyzed from gaining strength. you dont know what its like to be paralyzed." actually, i do. i was born with spina bifida myelomeningocele, and i'm paralyzed from the knee down. i dont want stem cells. i'm not gonna waste human lives for my own gain. that's just wrong!

Oh, sure he cares about human lives when it comes to 4 day old embryos, but it is just peachy to send Israel billions in military aid to kill innocent Lebanese and Palestinian civilians. Not to mention all of the poor men and women that were sent to "serve our country" in Iraq who died for his greed. He is an idiot and a puppet.

he vetoed the bill because he doesn't need it for his family. he is a dumb person, and you can't say otherwise because he went to YALE, and he is as stupid as the day is long!!!
if the United States are supposed to be the cutting edge in healthcare, why is he putting brakes on the methods of finding cures for illnesses and what have you
