yes ou can puchase RAM, but unlike hard disks, you have to make sure it is the right size, voltage and speed for your system. Also you need to make sure you ave open memory slots available.
Check your system board manual for the ram type, and open the unit to see if you have any available ram slots.

You can purchase additional RAM memory. This is the physical memory that is inside your system, that is used to run applications. Each system needs a specific type of memory, and has a limited number of memory slots on the mother board.
I do not know of any USB based RAM, like USB based external hard drives.

ok everyone has told you you need the same type as you already have installed in your system.
so now you need to open up your computer, now look for the RAM modules these are easy to identify as you may know.
take a look at your existing module and make a note of exactly what it says on it. now you need to shop for the same type the only thing that you need to worry about is if the system requires a matched pair then you will have to buy two modules to get your new desired RAM size.
see the instruction manual for your motherboard for the exact spec of RAM that your system will support.
to buy ram in the uk see www.dabs.com
remeber if you are attempting to install any pc components yourself you should use a properly earthed anti-static wrist strap.
