Im going to the eye doctor tomorrow for a contact lens fitting. The doctor told me to open and touch my eye to be ready for contacts. The last time I went to the eye doctor, I couldn't put in the contacts. I kept on blinking and I was scared. I wouldn't even let the eye doctor to put it in. The thought of putting contacts in my eye, taking them out and touching my eye freaks me out!! Help!!

when I first started wearing contacts it took forever to get them in and out. Mostly because I couldn't stop blinking. The thing is, it doesn't hurt, and its never hurt. So maybe just think about how it doesn't hurt and that will help ease your fears.

Well firstly ignore stupid scare stories like the idiot above^^ I started wearing lenses when I was about 15 and it's completely natural to feel weird about touching your eyes, so don't worry! I was exactly the same but I'm 35 now and been wearing them ever since. The best thing is to persevere and one day it'll just click. Don't put pressure on yourself, you will get there - just pick a time when you feel calm and practice holding them near to your eye but don't actually put them in until you feel like doing. It sounds great that you've got the technique right of holding your eye open, that's half the battle. You could also try just holding the eye open and with a (clean!) finger just gently touching the white of your eye to get used to the sensation. Remember, you can't 'lose' the lense behind your eye. I'm not sure what kind you're using (I wear hard gas permable) but neither can you damage your eye with them so there's no rational thing that could go wrong. If you try to put them in and then blink or panic, they'll just flick out with no harm done. Just stay calm and practice, I promise you'll make it :o)

I had the same problem, but I got used to it. Actually, there's something refreshing about putting on contact lenses when the solution is cold. It's like a sigh of relief.

Close your eye, then gently rub the outside of your eyelid. There, you've done it. You have officially touched your eye, except there's just a very thin layer of skin between your finger and your eyeball. Contacts take some getting used to, but you'll get the hang of it after a few days.

Touch your eye without blinking. You'll find that it does not hurt at all. It's just your fear that's making it worse than it really is. Practice at home with your contacts and you'll do fine.

I got contacts last year, and at some times I didn't get mine in for 45 minutes. It just takes time to learn to get used to it. Now I can put my contacts in 5 seconds without a mirror. Make sure you wash your hands before taking contacts out and putting them in! Just try and try and eventually you'll get it! :)

Hope this helps!

The idea of it freaks me out to, but think of it this way... if you get something in your eye that is really irritating, like an eyelash or something else, you can look in a mirror and try to get it out right? And I'm sure in doing so you are touching your eye, so maybe start with trying to touch the inside corner first like you might in that situation.

i heard there was a guy that put a contact lense in his eye but the eye bobbed down below his finger, so his finger went into the back of his eye socket where his optic nerve was and cut it with his fingernail, and blinded himself permanently. i think its on youtube actually. hahahahaha

You don't need to touch your eyes. If you look either to the left or to the right, you place the lens at the corner of your eye, and your eye will sort of "grab" the lens. There is no need for you to actually touch your eye . The shape of the lens allows for your eye to grab it. When you go to take them out, you will have to get a bit closer but you will only touch the lens itself. If you're really uncomfortable with grabbing the lens out of your eye then you can slide the lens down to the corner of your eye and grab it that way. good luck!
