2 oz every two or three hours
Energy RDAs for healthy, full term infants are as follows:
Age Energy Recommendations (kcal/kg/d)
0-6 months / 108
6-12 months / 98
1-3 years / 102
To Provide 120 kcal/kg/d
Infant's Weight Expected Total Daily Intake (in ounces)
Pounds kg 20 kcal/oz
4.5 / 2 / 12
6 / 2.7 / 16
8 / 3.6 / 22
10 / 4.5 / 27
12 / 5.5 / 32
To estimate energy requirements and recommended formula intake for an individual infant:
* Obtain infant's weight in kg. If measurement is taken in pounds, convert ounces to a decimal value of a pound (each ounce is .0625 of a pound) and multiply by .454.
* Multiply weight in kg by 120 kcal/kg to get estimate of total energy needs.
* Divide by 20 to get number of ounces of 20 kcal/oz formula.
Example:
* Infant weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces.
* 6 ounces is equal to 6 x .0625 = .375 pound
* Infant weighs 7.375 pounds or 7.375 x .454 = 3.34 kg
* 3.34 kg x 120 kcal/kg = 400 kcal total daily energy need
* 400 kcal/20 kcal per ounce = 20 ounces of formula
for your baby you would figure 108 not 120 kcal/kg/day (120 would be used for a malnurished baby)

I breastfed both my sons but also had to supplement with the bottle because they were always hungry!! LOL Neither experienced nipple confusion by going back and forth.
But, to answer your question, you already have two fairly different answers. So, ask yourself this? Does your baby seem content after a feeding? How long can he/she go before the next feeding? (Probably only 2 or maybe 3 hours right now.) Does he/she pee and poop on a regular basis? Is the baby growing and gaining weight? If you can answer yes to all the above, then you are probably right on target with what your baby needs. Each baby is going to be a little different.
If you are still concerned, you can always call your pediatrician. Many of them have a nurse help line where you can talk to them about your individual concerns and your specific child.
Enjoy this time! Everyone will tell you that and I was told the same thing. But, you are just so tired, it is all fuzzy.
Many blessings upon you and your child.
PS: I just read one of the answers about no more than 32 oz a day abd she is right!. But, my boys would sometimes take 40+!!!! Doctor said it was fine and they were fine according to growth charts. They were both around 100% for height and the 50-75% for weight.

my 6 week old is eating 4 to 6 ounces every 3 to 4 hours. My pediatrician said go ahead and let her eat if she's hungry. If he's eating a lot however and not gaining weight that is cause for concern...This is my 4th and I have always fed all of them what ever they cried for when they are full they will refuse the bottle.

My daughter was eating 2 oz bottles every 3-4 hours her first month, and the day she turned one month old she started INSISTING 4 oz bottles every 3-4 hours! She was eating between 20 - 24 ounces a day I think.

i just asked the advice nurse this yesterday! She said a baby should eat whatever there weight is divided by 2... So if your baby is 10 lbs you should be feeding your baby 5 oz. every 3 to 4 hrs! but shouldn't exceed 32 oz in a 24 hr. period! The amount fed and length between feedings changes often, especially when you start to feed solids!
