I think it's wrong to veto stem cell research. Cloning I can understand because it's actullay a person. But meanwhile there are tons of people out there with things that could be cured but he won't approve it, so they are screwed. Any opinions?

Yes and the church and State thing, I didn't really think of that but yes it's also very true. Maybe we can sue him lol
Well, I hate to tell people this but in other countries it has been proved that stem cells can help people and do help people.

I'm also a Republican and I disagree with the veto HOWEVER i completely understand where hes coming from. Many scientists are crying that these stem cells MIGHT do something but in reality were so far away form any clinical tests that they dont have the proof to back it up. Too many people trust scientists because we want to think they have non-objective comments but its not always true. I am a bioengineering major so i disaprove with any government interferance in the biotech sector so in this respect i also dont want the governments money. If you let the gov have that control over what you do they can regulate you to keep you in line so you become dependant on their money which is what has happened now. There is nothing the private sector cant to better than the gov and biotech is another instance of this principle.
Actually you know what i think i agree with him after writing this lol.

Absolutely not. Bush did not veto stem cell research. He vetoed further government funding of stem cell research. HUGE difference. Why should our tax dollars go toward research that has not done anything? There have been no cures, vaccines, or people helped by stem cell research. There is not even a cure or vaccine on the horizon. Meanwhile, adult cell research has cured people and helped them heal. It is ethical and WORKS. Why not support the moral and WORKING method rather than a stab in the dark?
You need to educate yourself more before you make such statements.
Please state your "proof" for stem cells helping people and curing people. There is NOTHING that has been proven with stem cells.

I totally disagree. He had children and their parents to show that these cells were donated for other people to have a child. And that is a very nice thing. Why didn't these people adopt one of the children in this country who need parents? And most of these pre embryos are going to be destroyed anyway. But I guess since he is so pro life he can ignore this fact. Duh--this man is absolutely clueless!! How many diseases could they try to find cures for with the help of this. I keep telling myself only 2 more years.

He vetoed to not allow stem cell research on LIVE embryos not one that are already dead. There is a difference. A live embryo has the potential to eventually be a person (who could grow up to cure Parkinson's disease), a dead embryo would not. I do not disagree with his decision. I tried for years to have a child. So for someone to get pregnant and abort the fetus in the name of research is unacceptable to me.

First off President Bush has given more money to stem cell research then any one before him. there was been only one thing the money could not be spent on was embryonic stem cell research. because embryonic stem cells are unstable and can not offer anything more then is offered in adult stem cells. it is funny how the media frames this debate by leaving one word out, Embryonic, it makes the President as uncaring. which is just untrue. here is evidence of adult stem cell research.

also the president has not banned embryonic stem cell research, but just no federal money can be used on it.

What ever happened to separation of church and state? How is it right for him to veto our rights to stem cell research because of his religious beliefs?

Keep hoping that your liberals will win the next election. Too bad you lost twice to bush. That makes you a loser. You are stupid so keep thinking the way you do, we need examples of liberals to laugh at. And you are one of them. As far as war with Iraq, It is great!!! As far as Israel killing Hesbola, I hope they don't stop until the job is done, even if it takes 10 years. Of course, I can understand that you, a typical libera, is on the side of hesbola and hamass, you are always on the side of groups that hate american values. Liberal views is not american values. Liberal views are not constitutional values, so stop claiming that you are american. Instead you are anti-american and it would make you jump for joy if the true american values goes into the round file. Liberals are human debris and i can debate you anytime with you lock step non-thinking, emotional wacked out views of hate.

Yes. I think the fed will eventually fund the research. Meanwhile other countries are already ahead of us doing the same thing anyway.
