I'm not positive it is actually a fruit, but i think it is...it is egg shaped and sized, orange and when cut open has a pod of red seeds inside...any ideas? The leaves on the tree that it is growing are shaped like a person's hand (i guess...if that makes any sense at all...) Thanks anyone...

It sounds like the fruit of a passion vine. Passiflora edulis is a vine that goes crazy here in Southern Calif. It will engulf trees and eat a house ;-) It is obnoxious. But the fruit is a delicacy. I am surprised that you missed the flowers. They are amazing. I hope it is not in your tree.

Good luck :-)

First, where are you and how tall is the tree?
Second, passion fruit grows on vines.

Sounds like a persimmon. I would check with your local garden center, or county extension center.

Doesn't sound familiar, might be a papaya? Here is a site for fruit identification:

And a shot of paya leaves:

Please let us know when you find out!

It could be a passionfruit. It has the right kind of leaves you are talking about.
