Why don't you read a book about someone like Martin Luther King? He was a really great leader, and there's a lot more to his life than just standing in front of people and talking about freedom.
Ben Franklin's got my other vote. He was a very interesting guy - a diplomat, a writer, a scientist, and something of a party boy.
If you like explorers, try a book about Lewis and Clark. They traveled across the whole West when few white men had ever been there, so it's interesting to read about how they made that journey, what they took with them, and the impressions they had of a whole country that only Native Americans had seen.
Good luck!!

Teddy Roosevelt. A visionary with many faults. Helped shape the modern world.

Douglas MacArthur: Helped save the world during World War II. His influence shaped modern day Japan.

Ulysses S. Grant: A failure in many aspects of his life but his agressive nature as a General may have turned the tide for the Union during the Civil War.

Linus Pauling: Nobel Prize Chemistry 1954: Nobel Peace Prize 1962: Only man in the world to win two unshared Nobel Prizes. His work on genetic influences in relation to the atomic structure of proteins in hemoglobin saved many lives. He discovered that sickle cell anemia is caused by genetic defect. Considered the "Father" of Bio-Techology. Vitamin C advocate.
