WASHINGTON - President Bush cast the first veto of his 5 1/2-year presidency Wednesday, saying legislation easing limits on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research "crosses a moral boundary" and is wrong. "This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others,"

Where is the taking of a human life. Is a sperm cell life?

How can your "Moral Boundry" be to let someone living suffer and die a painful death for a lack of a cure brought about by being allowed to growing cells in a Petri dish?

These are cells that have no markers on them and has the potential to grow as any cell in the body, possibly even brain cells!

Bush said it "crosses a moral boundary"! He has 2,781 dead in Iraq over oil and has preformed more executions than anyone in modern day history!!!!

I'm betting you approve of the slaughter of fully formed babies as well, "opps...

let me politicaly corect myself...."

I assume you approve of the thousands of abortions as well.

Still don't sound right... I guess murder is murder, no matter which way you put it.

Embryios become babies, babies become humans

IT IS UNFAIR to take their chance of life from them.

regular cells don't become humans, they are just cells.

Embryios are human life because they turn into humans.

Those soldiers died for our freedom and Iraq's freedom, and to protect America from terrorist!

How dumb can some people get!?

May God grant you wisdom.

Have a Nice day.

People live and die, that's reality. The problem is, some people can't accept that. Bush had to find a better way to say he's not going to allow legalization of people PLAYING GOD. The reason he feels it is crossing a moral boudary is because of Christian beliefs that we are all appointed a time to live and die. Why are people so afraid to die? I understand that people want to be cured, not suffer, and live longer, but someone who is non-religious can't possibly understand the belief in the immorality of playing God. There is no way that anyone could convey that to a non-religious person. That's just the way things are. I'm sorry, but all of us on the religious side agree. If I were dying, and there was a possibility that someone could clone cells for me to be cured of a degenerative disease, I really can't say what I would choose. But I would hope that I would choose to let go and die with honor.

I'm sure he probably isn't stupid enought to actually believe that human life is being taken, but how the hell is he supposed to convey to someone that's non-religious that stem-cell research is wrong? Those who are non-religious would absolutely not understand that. This nation was founded on religious beliefs and is still made up of mostly religious people. Take a look at the polls and see how many people would want to allow that. It's the choice of majority. Bush knows that. When someone else becomes president, then they can change that legislation.

You make a good point, and its kinda ironic isn't it since Bush has no morals. Furthermore don't these morons realize that you can get stem cells from umbilical cord blood after the birth of a baby, blood that would normally just be thrown away. And I think republicans/ conservatives think every sperm should have a name!!!!And lets face it we should know by now republicans care about no one but the selves and their wallets, I believe one of the main reasons for their opposition the stem cell research is if their were cures for the diseases that have potential stem cell treatment options, that would take money from the drug company's, and Bush and Co. wouldn't want to take that money away from the fat cat drug Co. CEO'S. And besides the only reason that republicans want live fetus is so they can grow up to be dead soldiers.

Why is it that anyone who has an opinion about what is and isn't moral that is diametrically opposed to you is DUMB?

You are certainly not trying to draw a parallel between the morality of the War on Terror and opposition to the "fruit" of abortion.... that would be dumb.

I also have a hard time believing that you would choose to compare someone being punished with the forfeiture of his life after receiving due process (within the constitution) with the destruction of a human being for no reason other than inconvenience. That would be dumb too.

Bush has no regard for human life whatsoever. It's about pandering to fundamentalists. To them some frozen cells are worth more than the lives that the research could save. Even when they only want to do research on the ones that will be destroyed anyway.

well you are wrong in your statement that this is about a sperm cell - first read up a bit.

I do NOT agree with Bush on this at all, but millions of people in the country feel exactly the same way he does.

Dont call him dumb over it, call the Whitehouse, your senators and congressman. That would make you not so dumb

LMAO. Do some research. Stem cell research has not given us a single cure, vaccine, or even HOPE of a cure. Adult cell research has. Why not funnel money into something that actually WORKS rather than something that is useless, wasteful, and unethical?

As for our soldiers, they are fighting in a war. This war is quickly escalating and involves SEVERAL middle eastern countries and is spreading into Africa. Now we have moral highground on the war AND a base of operations in the middle east. Now who is the moron?

stem cells are taken from umbilical cord blood and really whether its moral or immoral has nothing to do with the fact that Bush has become that which he set out to destroy, terrorists, simply and sensibly , if you want something bad enough you find a way, lots of private funding and things of the like, and "morality" in a non church state has no bearing

Amen! (better late than never).. Its very appallling!

This 'man' has wreaked of death since his execution of Karla Faye Tucker, and with the glimmer and enthusiasm in his face while boasting of his execution rate during the 2000 debate with Gore. Then the many snide comments about the war, i.e. "Bring em On!".. And how many countless other ways he displays his short-sightedness at our country's expense.

My question is, how can his voters not see this? And they call US unpatriotic!

I thought that the research was on cells that were going to be thrown out anyway with no chance of living... how is it immoral to do something with trash?

I mean if trash could save someone's life... it would be immoral not to try... right?

no one seems to address this?

numb to you: all of you "on the religious side" don't agree... either.. it's a very divided issue, even in many churches...
