Or is that a tactic to harrass us into hanging the phone. Everytime I call a bank, large company, government agency, etc. I get this: "Your Call Is Important To Us, Please Stay On The Line" message. The problem is they repeat this every 15 seconds, like we forgot our call was important to them 15 seconds ago. Why do they feel the need to remind us 4 times per minute. Also, their Muzac and advertisements loop on the line while Your Call Is Important is really HARASSING and just wants to make you hang up.

no, your call is not that important or they would have more workers available to take your call. It is just a stalling tactic to waste your time in hopes that you will hang up and come in instead.

They don't want you calling in the first place. Many companies are stuck in a "Catch 22" when it comes to customer service. If they make 30% profit on a product they sell, that's terrific. But, often, they have to cut that margin way down to stay competitive. Still they have to offer customer service of some sort. There will always be problems with product or service, and many states have laws which mandate a certain level of consumer protection. Also, they have to maintain at least the same level of customer service as their competitors do, or they will lose business. So, their dilemma is to provide only enough customer support as they can afford to while being competitive, not breaking the law, and not losing money. Is your call important to them? No way. You're too expensive to talk to.

If my call were really important to them, they would have a human being answer it. This is an example of gross hypocrisy.
