When the child starts telling you they are poopy or they pee'd. They need to realize first what is going on. Usually them taking off a dirty diaper on their own is a good indication.

You missed the earliest. For "baby toilet training", you need to start very early--usually by 3 months old.

Having missed that opportunity, wait until baby is at least 2. Better yet, just don't toilet train her/him. *All* babies want to grow up. You don't have to do *anything*--just follow your baby's lead. It's a lot easier than toilet training, and it works better, too.

When they understand. Doctors say not to try until after they turn 2. I have a 3 year old daughter, and I started training her at 2 1/2 yrs. She still sometimes pees in her pants...but not too often. Good luck!

Two years old- a little older for boys. ( I have six children.) When it is much earlier than that, it is not the child that is being trained, it is the parent. Get a book on potty training. It is well-known that waiting until the child can physically tell that she or he needs to go, hold the urine, and communicate the need to go is when it is best to begin. It will happen someday.......patience.....this is just the beginning.....

Boys are easy. Make a game out of it. I used to put a cherrios in the toilet and he'd try to pee through it. Girls aren't much harder though. You have another year and 3 1/2 months of diapers. Praise them alot when they start attempting. Such a cool age. I wish they'ld stay that young.

well, I had a friend who started training her daughter when she was walking (about 8 months). she was completely potty trained by a year. The problem.. the child relapsed.. and sent them back to square one. Ive had the same issue with a couple of my kids, except I never started training them at such a young age. My best advice is when they are ready, they will let you know. And my experience with that has given me the greatest benefit of not having to struggle with potty training.

You cant train until they are ready. Some kids train as late as 3. Dr.'s actually say not before 2 years old.

If the child wakes up in the morning with a dry diaper, it would be time assuming the child can walk and has some verbal skills.
