I believe he left her long before their son died. As for the soapbox question, in my opinion, yes. She uses it as a soapbox and money stash to fund herself so she doesn't have to get a job. She also rides it to nice vacation spots, using it as a travel vehicle.

She uses it as a soapbox no more than Bush and the Neocons use the growing mountain of caskets as some twisted justification to put more sons and daughters in harm's way for no other reason that to make money for all their buddies.

Yes and yes. He's said so many times. He also said that her son was ashamed by the way she acts. On the other hand, I don't think Cindy is all there and I think the libs are taking advantage of her and using her for their agenda. They will use anybody!
