Yeah football and boxing. I did it anyways but I was already 18 so I didn't need there approval. They just worry for your safty. I agree they are dangerous sports if you are not careful but what if you have the skills to be the next great athlete? You never know unless you try? Tell them to be reasonable, that is why they have saftey gear as well.

I think everyone has been in this dilemma. If you think about it, you can hurt yourself walking. I am a parent and face this all the time..I have girls who cheer and do gymnastics. I have seen my 9 year old daughter get tackled by a wayward play..fall off a balance beam and get hit in the face by a soft ball pitch. Its hard seeing ones children hurt for any reason but that shouldnt stop one from trying sports or anything for that matter. Your parents are only caring for you. Maybe you can show them the safety equipment that is used, talk to coaches, parents, and kids who are involved in the sport. Good luck.

Yep. I ride quads. My mom HATES that I jump and "take risks". I was 24 before I got my first quad and my mom STILL flipped out when she saw me on it.
My oldest child is 10. He rides quads and got his first "big air" a couple of weeks ago. As long as he's supervised, I'm all for it.
I have ridden horses since I was 5. My daughter rides her horse on her own and it terrifies me, even though I did the same.
I think as long as we give porper instruction, make sure our kids have the protective gear - we should let them try and do what makes them happy.

Yes, allot of times. Such as the time I wanted to join soccer. It took me forever to convince them. Next thing I know I end up braking my arm in soccer since some girl got mad that I took the ball, so what does she do when she gets the chance of getting the ball. She goes up to me and kicks the ball sooooo hard that it knocked the crap out of me.

There are plenty of parents who refuse to let their kids play school sports, like football.

Yes, high school football. I wish I had played now. They wouldn't have stopped me from playing but they were against it since my older brother got hurt one year.
