I''m a recovering alcoholic and and have no social life anymore. I can't seem to make any friends at all in AA, and I don't think I will ever get over my ex-girlfriend unless I start dating someone else.

I've tried MATCH.COM and another site, but I always get the same answer, sometimes immediately. Either women:

1. Just don't want to date anyone that's a recovering addict/alcoholic.

2. Don't want to date anyone that doesn't drink.

I was just hoping someone could tell me why?

I'm 45, single, live alone and a pretty nice guy. Women in recovery generally don't date men in recovery. I don't think i'll ever find a wife.

It's been a few years now, and I find myself so lonely that I think of suicide alot.

You're not going to meet the best class of women hiding in church basements. Get out and do something, anything that doesn't involve drinking.

I'm married but looking for friends; I recently moved to a different state and don't know a soul. I've joined a Scrabble club and am checking out volunteer work. Good people are attracted to other good people. If you were someone else, would you want to be your friend? If not, take this time to work on it.

I waited a long time for a relationship after getting sober, I wanted to be able to bring something to a relationship and not settle for someone who was needier than me. I developed a healthier self-image through volunteer work.

I bet you're a really nice guy and I am almost certain that there's someone out there for you. I'm a lot younger than 45, but if I were older I'd give you a chance at least. I think these girls need to realize what a huge step you're taking, and for you, I'd concentrate on one thing at a time. But if it's a good girl you're wanting, try getting out and socializing more. It'll happen. And as far as suicide, don't do it. It's really not worth it. Try getting some professional help for that depression you got going on there. Maybe that's the reason that the girls don't want to get involved with a person in your situation..depression. And I personally don't blame them. Noone wants to be in a boring, down relationship. Be happy about what you're doing, and perk up a bit. It'll be alright!

possibly this could help: i do no longer drink plenty extra beneficial than a thimble-crammed with alcohol a 365 days. I just about continuously turn down a drink, who prefer pop or tea or water. whilst asked why (no longer very oftentimes), I clarify that as a youthful grownup I drank and located that i did no longer like the impression it had on me (slurred speech, frequently). seems to me you would be uncomplicated adequate approximately no longer ingesting without revealing you're a improving alcoholic. it is honest to declare you do no longer purely like the impression booze has on you, and so which you evade it. The AA conferences won't replace into an argument till you're waiting to calm down with somebody who would understand your finer traits. in case you attain that component, and nonetheless want AA to stay sober, that's the time to describe why you evade booze. mutually because it is commendable to be up front suitable away, save in mind it is -all- they understand roughly you. you want the prospect to enable them to be sure how nicely you do without booze and how nicely you evade the stuff before stating the previous. with the aid of keeping off in this suggestions, you supply them a huge gamble to get a extra balanced view of who you're. wish that facilitates.
