What is the problem and how can it be stopped?

it could be a cramp. try drinking more water throughout the day, it helps rid them. also, when its happening sit with your legs in front of you and pull back on your left foot while keeping your leg straight. that should stretch it out.

leg cramps if severe are sometimes called a charlie horse
the muscles in your legs feel like they are knotting up and may be due to a shortage of potassium in you diet try banana's or possible potassium pill best to have your potassium level checked

i also think it'sacramp. eat morefood with potassium, i.e. bananas. and exercise and stretch
