they definitely need more pieces....they were on the right track when they had swift and rudy gay....they need talent and they had it...swift was a flop last season but he is a major talent that needs the right tweaking to harness his athleticism to good use...rudy gay is possibly a future all star...an andre iguadale with offense type player...now they traded them both for battier...altho all houston fans including tmac himself feel the trade was in the right direction, trust me they will regret ever doing that deal...swift was already getting in tune with the system and is an instant offense type player and can give you shotblocking ,help defense and rebounding...battier has gotten to be pretty overrated ryt now...he's a decent player...he gives good solid defense but not bruce bowen level...he is a good team player but that can only do much for the rocket's future plans..they will always be overpowered by the likes of the mavs who have too much pieces to throw at you...you just cant throw away talent in exchange for veteran leadership...the rockets will contend this yr and possibly fight it out for the 4th seed in the west...but they threw away a potential 1st seed and a major powerhouse roster in the future yrs...for free agents they should pick up any quality players they can find...mike james wud have been a gud pickup but he signed elsewhere...marcus banks also will sign elsewhere...i think they shud just pick wheoever is remaining in the free agent pool...fred jones wud be a solid pickup for them...and will contribute immediately as a swingman...the rockets also need to shore up their frontline...a banger/garbage type player...

Shane Battier gives them a great "right now player" he will make a difference, but it wont always show up on his stat sheet. Swift was an underachiever and getting rid of him was a bonus. Gives more playing time to Chuck Hayes who had a solid rookie season. Rudy Gay is an unproven rookie who is known to be a slacker.

The rockets also added John Lucas III and today signed greek point guard Vassillis Spanoulis who is one of the best young guards in Europe right now. Kirk Snyder adds size at the 2 guard spot and Novak adds much needed shooting.

At this point the rockets are short a big man and they still have a 4.2 million trade exemption to use and about 3 million from the mid level exemption so they could add 2 rotation type players. I'd like to see a Melvin Ely, Trevor Arizia, Chris Wilcox(he may be too expensive) But we need a player who can play both the 4 and the 5.

In the end this team revolves around a healthy YAo ming and Tracy Mcgrady, their health and Yao's development will be the most telling story to how much the team improves

Battier can play PF he has finished it on the Memphis Grizzlies reason Mike Miller became SF and SG became Bonzi Wells. anyhow, Shane Battier is like the 2d maximum experienced defender contained in the NBA. Ron Artest is the first experienced defender contained in the NBA. A case should be made for Bruce Bowen, yet he's unable to guarding a PG to a C, like Artest and Battier are. they could preserve all 5 positions. even as having 2 of the perfect defenders contained in the league. The Rockets who were between the proper protecting communities contained in the NBA for decades now are truly the proper protecting crew this 365 days. they actually have Scola, Hayes, and Landry those 3 further solid defenders only help the reason w/ Artest and Battier. anyhow, PG. ALSTON SG. MCGRADY SF. ARTEST PF. BATTIER C. YAO 6. Scola - can be a sixth guy of the 365 days worth participant 7. Francis - even as he comes decrease back, perchance he can provide them production 8. Hayes 9. Head 10. Barry 11. Landry 12. Brooks

Shane Battier made a huge difference in Memphis. He was their best defender and he always guarded the opposing teams best player.

He is a decent rebounder for his size, can block, steal, and shoot the 3. The Rockets do still need someone running the point, but Shane Battier is a solid player.

Shane Battier is a great defender. If you need proof, go and look at the US Olympic Roster.

i dont think shane battier will make an impact he never made an impact with memphis and rudi gay would have made a big impact i dont know real good free agents but i think they need a point gaurd so i guess they should pick the slam dunk champion from a couple years ago fred jones or they should make a trade
