My thoughts exactly, stem cell research is the only existing viable solution to problems like cancer, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's... But bush doesn't even understand what stem cell research is so he veto's it.. America's voice, and democracy, once more muffled by bureaucracy

Hi, my name is Hank. No, his veto is genuine. He is Hell-bent to keep stem-cell research from happening. He is doing it from a religious point of view. He calls it principles. But the principles are based in religion.

He says the cells are life, when they aren't. If they aren't fertilized they can't be born, unless there is some other kind of manipulation done by man.

There is only one miracle like that in History, and God did it. George Bush, as much as he likes to think he is, isn't God's enforcer or messenger. For him to do what he is is blasphemous.

That brings me to a point often overlooked by people.

The religious right is trying to tell us how God thinks. How can they know definitively what God would say or do? Isn't that for God to judge, not man? Isn't that blaspheming too?

The passages in the Bible can go either way on this issue, or most other issues the religious right tries to foist off on us. You can find Biblical advice for and against.

So, the anti-stem-cell research proponents are putting words in God's mouth. I wonder what God is going to say about that on Pearly Gate day?

Bush is genuine in his attempt to stop this. But it is just another example of the religious right imposing their religious views on the rest of us.

We don't have politicians wise enough to fight the good fight for us or even to stand up for us. We need politicians with backbone. But that seems to be an oxymoron.

If this US doesn't move forward.... the modern miracles of medicine will be discovered and implemented outside of the US ..... It's sad that our leadership is short sighted... instead of all or nothing, isn't there some compromise --I like what the others have answered.... living tissue that isn't fertilized is not a living human being.

Pray for this issue to stay in front and center although unfortunately there are so many other issues that need priority too.

Good question -

Bush is listening to his Conservative friends who do not understand stem-cell research. They think it has to do with abortions. Doctors can get stem-cells from umbilical cords too. They are just too ignorant about medicine and science.
