some good answers here. I am middle class and pay very little tax thanks to the kids. the part that hurts is social security. if i had invested all the money i paid into that i can retire today at age 40. as far as investing in education we spend enough money now to educate one student that if we just gave them the money in a trust they can retire at age 18. schools in bigger cities are failing despite this spending. so spending more will help? do you want an equal tax system where the poor pay 35% of thier income to the government?

Tax breaks for the middle class. Health care for everyone. More money spent on education. Programs for the homeless. Protection of the environment. Increase the minimum wage.

These are the platforms traditionally championed by Democrats. Democrats have traditionally been the advocate for the blue collar working men and women, the middle class, the backbone of America. Democrats drink beer and sit in the cheap seats at ball game, eating hot dogs. Democrats own guns and go hunting using American made firearms like Winchester and Remington. Democrats go to their community Church every Sunday. Democrats have kids that join the military as enlisted personnel. Democrats work for a living and have their taxes automatically withheld by their employers.

Democrats are just regular folks who believe that everyone who works hard and pays their taxes should have a decent shot at life.

If you want to fight poverty, then you need to invest in education. Poverty is an enemy that needs to be either defeated or controlled. It can't be considered a natural by-product of a healthy economy or some desirable outcome. But you don't just throw money at poor people either. You educate the population so that they can create opportunities for themselves.

Truth, Justice and the American Way! Literally.

Liberals feel that government for the people and by the people, helps and protects the people when they are down. Liberals feel that you should never be turned away for needed healthcare simply because you can't afford it - and in times of tragedy or natural disaster, we expect the governement to be there too, to help us recover and rebuild.

Without that, it hardly makes sense to pay taxes - but we are happy to pay a reasonable amount of taxes, and we hate it when the wealthy can get out of paying their full percentage. I mean, percentages only work if there is no cap, or smaller percentages to those who would contribute the most, right.

Liberals feel that if we are all going to live in peace and harmony on this planet, we need to work with the global community to handle international affairs and we need to be as fair and impartial in our domestic affairs as we can. We need to treat our land properly or risk losing people in more natural disasters. We must adhere to seperation of church and state, because that is something that makes this nation great. We must adhere to freedom of speech, defend our borders against dangers to our population, and equality for every citizen. Each of us must learn to live and let live - we can rule our own lives, but not the lives of others.

It is difficult, as the non-ruling party at this time, to give details on information, plans and current infrastructures and how we would specifically change them. I think that overall, I would like to see a team like Bill Clinton's team, come in and get things under control. Madeline Albright did a great job with international affairs. Getting rid of the deficit and leaving office with a surplus was great accomplishment for Clinton. The work they did to make healthcare more accessible to people was terrific. Our government ran smoothly and more efficiently than during any other administration that I can think of and was on a slow but steady track to easing into a greener ecology.

I think the best we can do now is hope to get a candidate that is intelligent enough to formulate solutions to these problems - or one who can surround himself with a team to do so. It's not much of a plan, I know, but we are embroiled in a situation, who's affects we are, to a degree at least, blind too. There are so many factors to considers and lot of private administration stuff that needs to be understood, to really know what the situation is and how best to proceed. With all the international unrest, we need to be working with other nations as a reliable team player, also.

Peace!

You can go round and round about abortion, gun control, death penalty, etc...

But Generally speaking,
Liberals would like a government who will take care of them.
Conservatives want the government to stay the hell out of their lives. They want everyone to pull their weight so the system our forefathers designed will work effeciently.

Liberal= BIG GOVERNMENT HIGH TAXES WASTING $
Conservatives= small government, less taxes, efficient $

... well there are liberals and then there are the democrats... and some have overlaps...

it's a horribly broad question with a horribly long answer... it would be much more effective to go issue by issue...

a few issues for many (everyone of course doesn't believe in the same thing)...

social health care for everyone- there are several different plans for this... depends on who you talk to

work on poverty... focus on education and employment in poor neighborhoods...

fighting terror: continuing to fight terror, but do it legally... you don't have to trample on rights to keep us safe...

and much more... each of these have multiple ways you could achive them, in mulitple ways... there are plans out there for many of them...

and many more people other than liberals dislike Bush...

Fascism, anti-capitalism, ignoring the facts, fiding evidence to fit their theory, arguing with conservatives, 5th grade name calling, and absolute deniability of the existance of God. Of course, this is your typical Extreme Left Liberal, not your normal human-like liberal.
