Sports are when you compete directly against one or more opponents, where your actions directly affect the actions of your opponents. So yes, billiards is a sport. So are Chess and poker.
Now, something like Gymnastics or figure skating cannot be considered a sport, because the ability is subjective (determined by judges). It's a competition, not a sport.

It sure is! Any game that takes skill is a sport. That includes checkers, chess, darts, hunting, and a lot of others.
