I do. I have a really bad back injury and I had to give up running. The doctors told me it will never heal, but you can stabalize it to keep it from hurting. A physical therapist can give you exercises for that and you can do them on your own without having to continue to go see the doctor. If the pain is really bad ask your doctor about "Elavil". It's an anti-depressent, but it helps with chronic and nerve pain. I've had this injury for almost three years now, but the exercises and the Elavil helps out a lot. I only take the Elavil when the pain gets bad so I don't build up a tolerance for it. Hope this help and always try to avoid spinal surgery whenever possible, it can make things worse, a lot worse.

I blew out my knee playing volleyball (ACL, MCL & torn meniscus) 2 points into the first game of the first match of the season 7 years ago and have not played seriously since.

Find another activity to replace it. You'll miss the sport (for you, gymnastics) but can learn to love what you replace it with. For me, it was triathlon. My injury healed but I have not been able to gain the confidence to try and push my knee through the lateral stresses.

Since it's your back, I would suggest swimming. It's a sport that you can practice and compete at throughout your life and will help you build and maintain fitness.

Good Luck!

I have to quit gymnastics because of a back injury too! I ve been to 5 physios the past 6 years and recently I went to a child back specialist. When he told me I have to quit I cried all night :-(
I know what you re going through, and it can be really hard. I ve taken up soccer and athletics instead. I also recently started coaching at my old gym club.
Stay strong!

YeS!!! and it is sooooo awful. I Played Basketball for 10 years and someone tripped me during a game and someone tripped over me and fell on my knee and i had a serious problem. I had an M.R.I. and all that stuff. It hurt soo bad not just my knee but emotionally was worse. (BEFORE CHAMPIONSHIP) I miss the sport sooo much and Im out for good

I know what you're going threw, I had to quit comagie due to an injury, best thing to do is fill your time with something else. Take up something like pottery, or yoga is very good, something to fill the void.

well, i probably didn't even have it as close to as bad as you do but i'm a sk8r and my knee got messed up and got really stiff so it hurt to skate, so for about 3 weeks, i couldn't skate at all. i just stared at my board the whole time wishing i could ride without pain.
