I have a mac iBook (they're called macbooks now) and it's great... it's really easy to manage stuff like movies/music and has really good features for games and stuff... and it has all the neccessary stuff for (uneccessary) homework!
The battery also lasts for up to 7 hours depending on what you're doing (most only last for about 2 hours) they have a special engery saving feature for when you're running on battery.... I use my computer on and off all day without having it plugged in... everything from internet.. messenger.. watching video clips.. and the battery lasts forever. (when you close the screen it automatically goes to sleep and conserves battery). It also has a sudden motion sensor (SMS) so if for any reason you have work open and the computer manages to fall or w/e... it senses it and automatically saves everything that's open, just incase something happens to it...
If you're going to be doing a lot of homework stuff that requires spread sheets or databases etc and you're used to windows, then stick with a windows computer if you already know how to do all that stuff on there, it might be easier.

(I never knew how to do all that stuff so it didn't matter to me!)

Phewf that seems like a lot of information!

Good luck! =oD

sounds like what you are goin for is probably a Media Center Edition laptop (one with a Windows XP Media Center Edition), which actually goes good with games, moves, and work, since they have a lot of memory in them (of course they need it for the movie software, and games), and would go great for homework if you plan on using Microsoft Office.

Here's a suggestion:
dont' waste money on that crap Microsoft Office - Just go and download this MS Office alternative called Open Office which is completely free. Here's the Link:

My vaio was crap. My HP (which was free) is okay for a cheap *** computer, but I don't recommend it. Dell is pretty well up on their game and have some laptops specially "formulated" for gaming and media. Alienware is a great off brand, but not cheap.

I like Dell and they have the whole spectrum covered.

Get a Mac =0)

1. runs 3 different OS's.
2. low power consumption.
3. silent operation.
4. small form factor.
5. stability and ease of use of the Mac OS.

i don't know but i do know that my dell laptop is a piece of garbage. the battery won't charge and this seems to be very common. perhaps dell has fixed the problem, what do you think?
