Inductive arguments take specific examples and make a generalization from it. First you present evidence or facts, then you draw a conclusion from it.

Deductive arguments take a general principal and apply it to specific cases. First you state a generalization, then apply specific instances to support it.

John Carl, Douglas Carl, and George Carl are brothers. I already know them in person and I know that John is clever, Douglas is smart, and George is intelligent.

INDUCTION is when I say: "Since the three brothers are at least clever, then the Carls as a whole are clever."

DEDUCTION is when I say: "Since these three Carls are clever, then their sister Monica must also be clever."
