There are several ways:
(1) When you have shared folders - the most simple one. You can avoid by UNsharing the folder.
(2) Remote Assistance - DON'T allow in System Properties.
(3) Remot control programs - check in control panel which program/s installed on your system, like PCAnywhere...
(4) Programs - even ONE program sits on your system (installed by somebody). You can check here through using firewall like zone alarm.
No, Windows Firewall alone is not enough to be your sole security.

There are commands with snoop software that can be applied to invade your files through open ports. You should run this down and get yourself a real firewall.
