Of course Carlos knew who Henry was. He is one of the best strikers in the world and every defender who plays against him knows exactly who he is. Some teams play zone defenses which means no one player marks any particular player, just the players in their zone. And sometimes good players just plain beat the defenders marking them.

I think he was just being the usual lazy Roberto Carlos: the most overrated defender in soccer. Seriously, how does one free kick in '98 make this guy a good player?

he knew who he was he just wasnt covering him. you can see in a picture that he was bending from when the ball was kicked until henry scored.
