Vivian Campbell from Def Leppard. He got his break playing for Ronnie James Dio in "Holy Diver" then joined Whitesnake when their biggest hit ever came out "In the Still of the Night" then joined Def Leppard in 1991. He has a solo album out now, but is still with Def Leppard. Check it out... you'll see how underated he is.

I'd have to say Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein formerly of The Misfits. He's not really well known for his solos but his rhythms are completely awesome and his tone and playing style are amazing and awe inspiring. You don't have to be a soloist to be a great guitarist.
His motto about guitar is, "The bottom two strings are for musicians, I'm not a musician, I'm an animal."
I love that.

Malcolm youthful from AC/DC. He has such an impressive style that keeps the band jointly, yet he's never stated and is overshadowed with the aid of Angus, or perhaps although that is with the aid of determination, he definately merits credit.

I second the Steve Stevens vote. Forget about what he's done with Billy Idol , listen to Steve's solo disc "Atomic Playboys", he is indeed a most versatile and underrated guitarist.
