I would ignore it. It's none of my business.

I do see that sort of thing, and typically I give the person the benefit of doubt. If I have the time, I'll wait around for a little while, to see if the person comes OUT of the establishment accompanied by a handicapped person. Maybe this guy's here to pick up his grandmother, for example. And I have seen it turn out that way, about 50% of the time.

My grandmother is elderly, and my parents obtained a handicapped placard (hangs from the car mirror) so they could take Grandma to doctor appointments, shopping, etc and park in the handicapped spaces. Fair enough, because Grandma can't get around without a walker, and she's still pretty slow.

Problem is, my Mom would take advantage of the parking permit even when she wasn't transporting Grandma anywhere! She gave me a lift at one point, to the shop where my car was being repaired...and she parked in the HP spot. When I asked her about it, she said "oh, yeah, I do it all the time." I actually yelled AT MY MOMMY. She hasn't done it again, though.

I would think it through - 1st I need to mention that I have a Handicapped Tag - and I use it regularly - but I truly don't "sprint", oh well - I would have to wonder why these particular actions took place. Perhaps someone has borrowed the car of someone who is actually handicapped. Perhaps they are driving another person around who is handicapped and they do the "running around". Perhaps the handicapped person had somewhere else to be at that time and allowed another to get something for them. I'm sure there could be more scenarios, I just can't think of them at this time. I suppose that if I needed the space I would be angry right then, however, after "thinking" I'd have to cool down - park somewhere else - get over it - and do my "thing"!

I take this issue personally since my sister is disabled and it has been a struggle with handicap parking the entire 18 years of her disability. The fault, I think, lies with motor vehicle services who issues the handicap plates. Yes, a person may have a totally legitimate DISABILITY, however that does not make him/her handicapped. example...people can be depressed to the point of being disabled. Unable to hold down a job, make decisions, etc..but that doesn't mean he/she is not capable of walking the parking lot to the store. There are literally thousands of scenarios. The DMV however, chooses to hand these plates out without stipulation. I have on many occasions confronted people illegally parked in a handicapped parking space, but, as tempting as it is, never a person legally parked and appearing to have no disability. That would be assuming and you know where assumptions lead! :) I truly do, however empathize. :(
ps..I NEVER used the placard if my sister were not going into the store herself (I was running in for her) or for my own personal use...NEVER! That's just cheesy. HEAR ME OUT THERE?? LOWLIFE TO DO THAT.

The thing about this is that there are some people that totally take advantage of handicap tags, like maybe a kid whose parent has one, and that is wrong.

But, not all people that have them necessarily have a walking problem. I had a friend who had a muscle disease, and her ability to walk well was changing. One time, when she was feeling better, she parked in a handy spot at wal mart and walked in. She came out to find a really nasty note on her car about how people that park there when they don't need to should be shot and all this stuff. But that person shouldn't have judged her, because she really did need the permit.

Sorry, I don't mean to write a novel!!

That's about as bad as the time I was looking for a parking space, and there were only two left - a handicapped spot, and a non-handicapped spot, and a car ahead of me pulled into the non-handicapped spot, leaving only the handicapped parking spot. But the car in front of me had a handicap permit!

Make no assumptions. Handicapped persons come in a variety of forms. A friend of mine is handicapped legally, and can drive, but he is a little 'slow'. However, running is one of his favorite pass-times. He does it a lot, everywhere he can. It's actually kinda scary.

As well, sometimes a person can get a temporary handicap capability for driving, such as if they've burst a vital organ and had surgery. But that's a bad example, as I doubt I'd be running if I had a burst organ.

I guess if you KNOW he isn't handicapped, contact the athorities, or find out who you do have to talk to (maybe the DMV). If their is no help to find, syran wrap his car doors.

sceptical perhaps, but maybe the person has a mental problem, ah but that wouldn't necessitate parking in a privileged spot close to the store, and then there's the question of a mentally handicapped person driving. Good point. I imagine the people that get upset at this are the same who can't stand seeing a person using a cellphone behind the wheel.

Do you suppose that there is something wrong with their partner left in the car? or perhaps they have some condition YOU don't recognize, seeing as how YOU aren't a DOCTOR! My step-brother can do lots of things normal people do including hold down a full time job, but he has a handicap sticker because he needs a new heart, and occasionally has spells where he cannot do anything physical. And I have a friend with a handicap sticker because he lost his left leg in a car crash. You can't tell because of his prosthesis, but he is definitely handicapped.

I have called the police a few times for seeing people park in handicapped spaces illegally. My father had both legs amputated 10 years ago and he has had to park way out in the parking lot because some jerk was too lazy to walk. Call me a ***** but they deserved it and the cops should enforce it more.

U know when i see them doing that it makes me want to tell them off because there are people that really need to get to the store and they are disabled and they have a hard enough life being Handicapped and they need those parking spaces!
