Your serpentine belt might be slipping or your pulley on your compressor is loose. Do you have problems charging your battery too. If so it is definitely your belt. When was the last time you had it changed if ever? If it was just changed yor tensioner might be shot. What make and model is it. I could tell you more if I knew that.

Most likely a problem with the A/C fan. Usually they are behind the raditor. It is working (barely) however the air won't get cold until there is enough air flowing through it. If it works at 50 you know nothing is majorly wrong with it. It is probably just a fuse or a relay. It should be pretty cheap to fix. Take it to a shop that does A/C work. Make sure they don't add more refrigerant (often called freon) because it DOES NOT need it and may mess up your compressor (big money). Let me know if you have any other problems.

This may be a simple low freon problem. This question needs more explanation. Does the air conditioner blow warmer air when you slow down? How much time does it take for you to start the car to get 50 mph? You may want to see your mechanic. The good thing is that you are looking for patterns.

it sounds to me that you have a weak a/c compressor. the reason why it only works at 50mph is because the pulley is being spun at a higher rpm when going 50. the problem will progressively get worse it wont get better on its own. it can be 250-500 depending on what type of car you have.

Your charge on the air conditioner might be low, usually if it takes High RPM's to get cold air, your charge is low, if you have a service technician check it, he can refill the charge and your troubles should be over, Good luck! It's HOT out there!

It sounds like it could be connected to your main A/C control panel. You have it on, but at what setting?? Is it on Max Air, or just A/C??? Have a good mechanic look at your cycling switch as well. It might not be engaging the clutch on the compressor.

It could be the belt or maybe even low on freon---also check to see if the fins on the condensor-the thing next to the radiator-make sure it has nothing in front of it restricting the flow of air accoss the fins..

if the ac dosent work till over 50 you might have problems with the : ac compressor, pressure level, cooling problem, leak, faulty relays, take it in to have it serviced make sure you have the right amount of freon

Sounds like a serpentine belt problem.
Or the pulley it goes around on the airconditioner.
