The Bride Of Frankenstein

The 1977 movie, "The Sentinel," directed by Michael Winner is chilling. The movie centers around a young woman who is moving into a Brooklyn, NY brownstone, but she begins to see and experience strange things.

Some of the people that she meets (she finds out later) were murdered in the house years before. What unfolds are grisly murder scenes, the meeting of Satan (played by a human, at first, anyway) and a plot that tells that something is amiss in the top floor of he brownstone.

A nun lives there, eerily blind looking (eyes are completely white) and she and everyone else is weird.

Could she be the next victim? She may suffer a fate worse than death, as the brownstone apartment where the nun lives is the gateway to something evil.

Stunning visual effects (for the time) and a very good plot!

'The Shining' is probably my all time winner; but more recently, 'Jeepers Creepers' (first one) was pretty good.

The first version of 'The Haunting' (with Claire Bloom and Russ Tamblyn) is really frightening. Also from that time 'The Innocents' (I'll never forget the dead woman standing in the lake in the distance).

Japanese classic - 'The Ring.'

There was also a 1970s B movie called 'The Sentinel' which probably wasn't very good, but scared me as a kid; it's about a woman in a New York apartment building who guards the gates of hell - the image of her sitting there alone in the room which was the portal has stayed in my mind ever since. I found it scarier than 'Rosemary's Baby' which was similar and more often mentioned.

Then there were the first few Freddy movies.

Everyone is mentioning 'Nosferatu,' which is really the horror prototype, but I also like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' (1920 version), it has very twisted surreal black and white images.

Halloween. I love it. Also the first Friday the 13th where Mrs. Voorhees head gets chopped off. I remember a bunch of friends were at my house watching that, while my mom and I sat on the couch. One of the guys got scared and crawled up beside of my mom right before Mrs. Voorhees head was chopped off. When the character swung the machete, my mom slapped the back of the couch. I thought we had a house full of corpses! It was so damn funny.
