obviously it depends on where your operating system(OS) is.

if your OS is on drive c: and you format drive c: then yes it will remove the OS.

if however its on say drive c: and your formating drive d: then it will be fine

for instance on my machine drive c: is for windows ME, drive d: is only a storage drive, and drive e: is my windows xp (i have a dual operating system)

i can format drive d: with no consequence to either OS, formating drive c: i lose windows ME, and formating drive e: i lost windows xp

Yes! you can even do better by partitioning the hard drive then formatting the hard drive. Is there a reason for wanting to get rid of the OS, do you need a new OS installed. formatted hard drives work pretty good, but if you have the money I would get a new drive with at least 7200RPM it makes your operating system work better. good luck

If you have assigned 2 drives on one hard drive, for example drive C and drive D, and the drive C has an operating system and you want to format it, then the drive C can be formatted without the drive D to be touched. When formating drives and you want it to be bootable without a floopy or CD, just type in: Format c: /s (copies a operating system)

NAH! (are you high or what?)
Of course it will!
What kind of idiot asks a question like this, unless he has never formatted one of them old 3 1/4 floppy disks!

you need to get soem more basic computer knowledge - which will not make you a nerd, but make you at least a bit more aware of what you are doing.

Formatting removes all data. (well not really but the system will see it as a blank disc.)

you do no longer! the only determination you have is to repair to production facility defaults (erasing all information)... whilst the VAIO emblem seems on the computing gadget's demonstrate screen, quickly press the F10 key on the computing gadget keyboard. The VAIO restoration Wizard seems.

Yes. Before you do anything so drastic, make sure that you have your recovery disk.

Are you sure you have to format?
