Have you ever heard the saying, "perception is reality." It's often erroneous but does carry some weight. For example, in the 60s I believe, a white female teacher of elementary school kids did an experiment whereby she turned the all white classmates against each other by stressing the differences in the color of their eyes. She split them up in groups and treated them differently and very quickly the children with blue eyes began to hate those with brown eyes and vice versa forgetting or ignoring their previous friendships and bonds.
What does this have to do with your question, you ask. It's this:
there was a time, when it did matter a lot more that someone here was Italian or Irish and so on. However, things changed over time as people got more assimiliated. So in time, they all became simply 'white'. This didn't happen till the 20th century. But it's never been uniform. Some white people still want to and do cling to their Italian or Scandinavian heritage or whatever. But how likely is it that a kid who happens have ancestors from Italy will research his or her ancestral history? I think kids would rather watch or read Harry Potter. But while whiteness was being accepted and assimiliated, other people were being excluded on the basis of not being white. We all know about slavery of Africans and Jim Crow. We should know more about what was done to the Native Americans but we know more or less that they were mistreated and that many were killed and driven off their land. I've visited reservations in New Mexico, Arizona, and South Dakota and these people live in terrible poverty in the world's richest country. We should also know more about the Chinese, Japanese and Korean Exclusion Acts that basically cut off immigration from these countries for many years. Anyway, I feel I have done a terrible job here but I'm trying to say that like it or not, America was shaped by Europeans for their gain and thus, all outside groups at one time or another have played "the other" and this has unfortunately not ended. Americans of Asian descent are still considered foreigners and anyone with a turban is a potential terrorist. This kind of maligning and hostility will likely carry us into Armageddon. Cheers to you!

There is an old term. WASP. It stands for White Anglo Saxon Protestant. People who are in that mindset view anyone who does not conform to that as an outsider. It is time to start doing away with all the labels. When you get right down to it, we are all human beings.
And since I'm from the south, I have been called a cracker or a hillbilly before.

The tv shows that are copied or imitated don't just occur in the Phils. When someone produces a successful show what is wrong with copying it? At least it gives employment to Filipino dancers, singers, actors etc. Most, not all, of the original dramas, comedies do leave a lot to be desired. I don't think that the Phils has a very big or diverse manufacturing industry and this is happeming all over the world for many goods.

Anglo-American is white American... but being the majority for the most part, I suppose the term isn't used all that often.

The names are used by the "foreigners" themselves. Most of us do not really care where we came from. If you were born in America you are American,If you were born in Jamaica you are Jamaican.
If you are White you are White,Black you are Black,No-one should be ashamed of their colour.
I was born and live in England,I am White. My ancestors came from Germany and Holland.I do not call myself Dutch English or German English or White English-just English and very proud to be so..

We are crackers. I don't know, maybe because other races make a big deal out of what they are named? I don't mean that to sound bias, but it is the truth....think about it. Hmmm maybe we should call ourselves Caucasian Americans? How about that? Now that sounds "foreign" lol!

If you think about this logically, we are labeled....as white Americans. The only true americans are indians. They are called American Indians.....not Indian Americans!

Actually it was the minorities that chose to be called 'african-americans'. 'asian-americans', etc.
It wasn't 'white' people that made up those names.
So the question should be posed to them. I for one never have called people that in regular talk, they are from whatever country they were born no matter what race.

To some, they are Anglo-Americans
To some they are Honkeys
To some, they are Massa.
And to most of us, they are just another human being.
Y'see, it all depends on how much power you give a person.
And NOBODY is any better than I am. Sorry, it's just the way my Mama raised me >:)
To me, it's mind over matter.
I don't mind, 'cause they don't matter...

Haven't you ever met people that say they're Italian, or Irish, or German? Everybody's from someplace else even the Native Americans.
