I have a Dell desktop that is about 4-5 years old, it have been getting a message that says I have low disk space. I keep trying to defragement and use Spy bot, but I can't get it cleared up. I only have a few word documents and it still says that the disk space is low. Is there anyway I can wipe the memory and start over, or anything else I can do to make it run smooth again?

No need to reinstall or format harddrive! As one of the ppl above said use the disc cleanup utility.
However, windows has a lot of hidden caches that stores literally thousands of things that you do on your PC. Who knows why? Point is those files grow enormous with years of use. Theres an excellent program that i use regularly for clearing those hidden caches called Evidence-Eliminator. Get the trial version at http://www.evidence-eliminator.com/ Carefully set it up in options and go. You'll be scared silly in the beginning as you see how much rubbish it removes. The first time i thought this thing was deleting my hard drive!
Afterwards you'll have ample space again and have that 'new' feeling back on your PC.

The only way to wipe it out is to re-install Windows. Try removing programs you don't use anymore in 'Add/Remove Programs' (Control Panel). That will usually clear up a lot of space. Also, clear your cookies and temporary internet files, because those will also totally slow you down (Internet Properties - control panel).

Although it probably is time to think about getting a new computer, or at least upgrading the memory.

Empy the Temp folder, Recycle Bin and clear all your system restore points. That will free up a lot of space until you can figure out what you want to do. While you are at it defrag your hard drive after you free up some space. This make your system run smoother.

Try disk cleanup. Start > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
