I am a Christian. I celebrate Christmas. A lot of the questions/answers under the Chrsitmas category talk about how this part of Christmas is really pagan, and that part of Christmas is false, etc etc.
But is there anyone out there that understands that Christmas is a tradition. No matter what the traditions stemmed from, they are still a part of Christmas as we celebrate it today. So Christ was not born at the end of December. SO WHAT??? That's when we celebrate it, so let it go.
It seems that a lot of adults have lost the feeling of Christmas because they take the facts too seriously.
So my questions are
Does anyone, who is Christian, actually like the current traditions we have?
What has happened to these adults, who say they are Christian, for them to lose the feeling of Christmas?
Jesus was born. That's worth the biggest celebration I can muster up. And if I have to use a tree and presents to help me get into that feeling, than so be it.

I like the traditions of Christmas. A church play by the kids, getting together with family and friends that type of thing. I think the problem is like with anything else. You get a few problems and the problems get bigger than they ought to be. It has become very commercial but we don't have to take part in making it that way. If we one at a time decide that in our homes we are going to celebrate Christmas the way it is supposed to be celebrated then we have done our part in not adding to the problems. If we don't participate in the manic attitudes of the Christmas shoppers and get back to what it really is all about, celebrating that Jesus was born so he could be a sacrifice for us, then that is all that really matters. So you are right, enjoy your celebration because He is worth the biggest celebration there is! :)

You're so right!

Christmas morphed into a capitalist bonanza.

Previous answer also showed how we keep getting it in our face sooner and sooner every year. It's mid July now. Give it two more weeks and we'll be seeing Santas and red catalogs and all kinds of "stuff" being thrown at us to keep us buying things we really don't need.

Give me back the spirit and the story... and the gifts, like you say, so be it!

Nobody should go out of their way just to give an expensive gift to somebody important in their life.

That gift can be given at any time of the year.

I would like to add this much more:

I love what Chirstmas is and what it was. Only want it to be more like it used to be before it got out of hand.

I find it interesting that those of other faiths go through the motions at Christmas but in reality don't have the spirit because of their own religious beliefs. They probably laugh to themselves over all the preparation and decorating and parties that only serve to lose the message more and more.

Hey, it commemorates the birth of the most important person to ever have lived on earth (if you are Christian).

It should be a solemn and joyous occasion.

It should be what it was on the day they wrote "Silent Night".

.This tradition has gone on for years but does at times get buried in the commercial aspect of gift giving. The true celebration is the union of family, friends and neighbors to feast and celebrate the gift of life its self. Jesus loved to get people together .....to break bread, drink wine and love each other for whoever or what ever you were. We need a little bit more of that going on daily, we do not have to wait for Dec.25 for that.
