I would like to go to Disney in Orlando. What is the best hotel to go to with a 9 and 15 year old, boys? Value? Fun? Food?

My fiance and I have been to many of the resorts on property. Our personal favorite is Port Orleans Riverside, because it's calm and relaxing and designed like a southern plantation. We also liked the Boardwalk because the view of the lake and the boardwalk is spectacular and it recreates the Jersey shore atmosphere of the 1950's. For adults, the Grand Floridian is the best because it's very elegant and high quality.

If you want value, any of the Pop Century or All Star resorts are good, because they are similar in style and price to Holiday Inns, Days Inns, etc, with the added bonus of decorations in that theme.

But, as far as deluxe resorts, either the Animal Kingdome lodge or the Yacht and Beach. Animal Kingdom has great decor and allows you to watch animals from your room. It's really simulates a African safari experience. But the Yacht and Beach resort has an awesome swimming pool with slides. Both resorts have excellent restaurants. However, AK Lodge is further away from the parks than Y&B, which is within walking distance to EPCOT. But all resorts provide shuttle service to the parks and both resorts have excellent restaurants.

It depends how much money you're willing to spend.
For a Value Resort I highly reccomend POP Century because in my opinion its nice than all the All-Stars. But, boys might like the All-Star Sports. Value Resorts are nice, they have themed pools and rooms and food courts and things like that. They have the whimsical look.
For a Moderate resort i reccomend Caribbean Becah because you really feel like you're at the Beach. They have a lake with sand around it with hammocks and beach chairs and such. They also have the main building called Old Port Royale which is beautiful. Inside all the tropical colors and decor blow your mind. Inside tthere is the food court, the full service restaurant and the gift shops. The hotel is split up into villages and each "village" has its own pool. The main pool is awesome though.
For a Deluxe resort I reccomend either The Polynesian, Grand Floridian, or The Contemporary. Both sit on the 7 seas lagoon and offer great views of The Magic Kingdom and the fireworks at night. Plus you can take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT right from those hotels. Or stay at The Beach Club or The Boardwalk because its such a short walk to the EPCOT World Showcase entrance that you can definitely walk and you can take a boat or take a slightly longer walk to MGM Studios.
personally, i think is fabulous whenever you don't have to ride a crowded Disney transportation bus, tahts why I like these hotels that offer different modes of transportation.

Have a Magical trip!

Personally, my fave property on the WDW resort is the Polynesian Resort. Right on the monorail line with 1 stop between it and the Magic Kingdom, plus if you're on the side of the resort that's close to the Ticket and Transportation Center (big monorail station) you can walk over there and hop the monorail over to Epcot. They've remodeled the pool a few years ago as well, but I haven't stayed there since that's been done, but it looks nice. You can also see the water pagant from the beach, and also the MK fireworks at night.

However, the kids may prefer the All Star Resorts, there's 3 of them, Sports, Music and Movies...with 2 boys, I'd do Sports. Those hotels are cheap enough that you can get 2 rooms for less than the price of 1 room at a Luxury property (like the Polynesian). I like Sports the best of the All Stars, simply because it's the 1st one you hit, and the busses stop there 1st. I stayed at Movies once, and waited forever for busses, because the same bus serves all 3, 5,000 room resorst--which is probably the only flaw in Disney's transportation equation. We've not stayed at Pop Century, but I assume it's great as well. We've also stayed at Port Orleans, which has an AWESOME pool, as does the Carribean Beach resort. Those pools may save you the cost of taking them to a water park as well, they're so awesome. My kids (12 and 16 now) have LOVED them over the years.

A great place to look for ways to save $$ at Disney--something my husband swears cannot be done LOL--is Mousesavers. Go to www.mousesavers.com, there's lots of info there on how to save $$, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

Well, the best value Disney Hotel is the All Star Resort. You can choose to stay at the All Star music, movies, sports, or pop century. The All Star Resort is great for kids and is the cheapest Disney Hotel. For food, you'll want to visit other Disney Resorts. Here are a few of my favorites!

*Boma: Animal Kingdom Lodge: - this all-you-can-eat buffet features foods from the Pacific Rim countries like Africa and Egypt!
*1900 Park Fair: Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - again, an all-you-can-eat buffet, but with characters!
*Ohana's: Polynesian Resort: an all-you-can-eat meal that is brought to your table.
*50's Prime Time Cafe: Located inside the Disney MGM Studios. It's lunch and a show!
*Japan at EPCOT: great sushi!

For a good deal and something the kids will definitely love, try out Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. There's savannahs on site, and you can have a view from your room. This Resort also has the largest swimming pool out of all the Resorts, "Uzima" which means "clear water." It has a zero-depth entry. There's three options for dining at this Resort- the Mara (quick service), Boma- Flavors of Africa (breakfast and dinner buffet), and Jiko- The Cooking Place (table service dinner.) It's a very cool Resort. My little sister who is eight loved it!

My personal favorite is Disney's Polynesian Resort. That's where my boyfriend and I always stay. It's more expensive than the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and most of the other Resorts, too, but it's so worth it. You can get a gorgeous view of the Magic Kingdom across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Bunnies and ducks are all over the property, as well as beautiful, tropical, green plants and flowers. Hawaiian music plays throughout the Resort constantly. It's nice to hear when you walk along the pathways. The Great Ceremonial House is beautiful with the waterfalls in the middle. There's two pools- the volcano pool and the "quiet pool." There's a few great places to eat- Captain Cook's (quick service), Kona Cafe (one of my favorite for breakfast, lunch, or dinner), 'Ohana (character breakfast, dinner), and the Tambu Lounge for drinks and appetizers. I really love the Kona Cafe. There's also the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (Polynesian Luau.) The kids would definitely love this Resort, too. There's also white-sand beaches, and a walkway to the Grand Floridian Resort.

For the least expensive place, look into the All-Star or the Pop Century Resorts.

My favorite place though, is Disney's Fort Wilderness. The Wilderness Cabins there are very nice and family oriented. The bedroom of each cabin has a queen sized bed and two bunk beds. Additionally, there is a double murphy bed (that folds down) in the living room. You get a fully-equipped kitchen, and you have a grill out on your deck.

I like Fort Wilderness for a couple reasons: First, if you're spending a week at Disney, you'll need some "downtime", and Fort Wilderness is one of the few places at Disney World where you can be at Disney World and not FEEL like you're at Disney World. Secondly, the Wilderness Cabins are by far the least expensive resort in Disney's "Home away from Home" resort category, at about a third less than all the other resorts in that category.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy your visit!

Budget is ok. Kids will love the themed pools. Allstars offers a sports themed hotel. There is the Wilderness Lodge and it is awesome, but it is a deluxe category. You will have to decide on how much you want to spend and then pick a hotel. The neat pools are Caribbean Beach, New Orleans, any of the Allstars, Pop Century and Wilderness Lodge. Awesome pools. Out of all the Disney hotels that I would NOT go to... Coronado Springs

Port Orleans is great, I have stayed there twice and going back a third. When trying to plan our last trip, we were going to stay at Pop Century, but the rooms are smaller and more of a hotel complex. Port Orleans is more resort-like. Plus you can catch a boat to Down Town Disney!

I have also stayed at Carribean Beach, but it is really spread out!

In terms of the busing system, I think we spent less time traveling to the parks from Port Orleans!

Wilderness Lodge is great. restaurants are wonderful, the pool is cool, and you can take the boat to magic Kingdom. Rooms are nice and spacious. They are one of the more expensive hotels. The animal kingdom lodge is great too! You can sit on your balcony and watch the animals. Decor is great too. loved the pool. and like the wilderness all rooms are in the same hotel they are not spread out. The boardwalk is very nice too. Same price range as the wilderness. you have the whole boardwalk to walk on with shops and restaurants. you can also just walk to epcot. you can see epcots illuminations from their too. they also have a nice pool. If you are looking for a better value you can stay at the coronado springs. nice rooms, great food. cool pool. the hotel is spread out so when you go to register request a room by the pool or if you prefer a room by the food court. i also likes port orleans, same price as coronado and is also spread out too. i never went to the big pool but our room was by a quiet pool which hardly ever had anyone in it. they had a nice food court also. All of the hotels are nice, clean and have great food. the more expensive hotels do offer more. like, more activities for kids, more transportation options other than bus such as boat or monorail. It is a good idea too, to stay on Disney property because you can take advantage of the disney extra hour. That is where you can go to selected parks an hour earlier than the general public and stay a n hour later at selected parks. but beware they are the busier parks on those says too. If you have anymore queations just email me at eesh1976@yahoo.com. I have been going to disneyworld with my family every year for the past 8 years.
