I am looking for a way to make a smoothed non-linear regression line with one of these programs. A kernel or median smoothed line would be ideal. Anyone know how?

Thank you to the Jims for your help, but I am not looking to smoothe the points, I am looking to smoothe the trend line. Excel has options to insert a different types of trend lines in a scatter plot, but I don't know of one that has a kernel or median smoothed line. I was thinking there is probably a macro out there that would allow this.

I think this just adds to Jim R's answer.

From within Excel, go to Insert Chart. From there, you will see all sorts of choices from scatter plots to points connected by line segments to points connected smoothly.

From your question, I suspect you want to select the points connected smoothly.

After that, you can do some adjustments to the image from within Excel.

Be sure to save your work often in case of a crash!!

To edit the graphic, do it within Excel. For example, to change the background from gray to plain, just double (or triple) click on the image. Same for the data points. For some reason, my default is blue, so I have to click on them, Excel selects all of them, and then I change the color to whatever I want.

After you are happy with the graphic in Excel, you can import it to your favortie picture managing utility. Then, you can do whatever you want.

I hope this helps a bit! :)

In Excel, if you double click on the data line, there should be a check box for smoothed line under the patterns section.

unfortunately I only have expertise with SPSS, not excel or SAS.
