Other people have adequately explained the roles of a bailbondsmen and the like. Just for clarity, though, Dog is not just a Bountyhunter, he is also the Bailbondsmen. That is why his wife is always cursing at the criminals "You trying to take money from my children by not showing up, you F#%$er!" And that is why Dog is so eager to grab the guys before the date arrives and he loses the bail money.

Is it just me, or does he remind anyone else of Brian Bosworth?

first an individual is arrested . then they are arraigned , at which time bail is set . they can then be bailed out of jail , by a bail bondsman . the bail bondsman , posts 10% of your actual bail amount , guaranteeing the balance , should the individual not appear for his/ her court date . for instance a felony , with a $50,000 bail amount , would be releasable from jail with $5,000 ( or 10% ) of the bail amount . if an individual doesn't appear or "skips" bail , then a professional bounty hunter is called in . these bounty hunters , are very similar to police , in so far as powers to arrest , and carry firearms . they then return the suspect to the waiting court , and he is rewarded with his "bounty " , hence the name .

i hope that answers your question .

thanks , have a fabulous week !

Hi there, once in a rare while Dog will bail someone out if he thinks they will get counseling and turn their life around, but for the most part they arrest the people and put them in jail and collect the bond money. The people he bails out probably don't pay him back...if they were going to jail in the first place, they probably don't have the $$ to pay him back. I love this show...he and Beth are getting married on a show in August...bout darn time! =)

I think a bounty hunter is nothing more than a glorified Security Officer, who arrest felons but turns them over to the officials they are the ones who can do all the rules and what not!

hes a bounty hunter for bail bond companies

if someone gets arrested and cannot afford bail, they go to a bail bond company which loans them the money. If they dont appear in court, the bond company hires Dog to find them and bring them to court so they can get their money back.

Dog searches for people who have warrants out for their arrest. Bail bondsmen get people out of jail for a percentage of their bond. For example, if your bond was set at 10,000. and you called a bondsman he would put up the 10,000 bail and you would pay him somewhere between 10 and 15 percent to do so. If you don't show up for court the bondsman loses the 10 grand. So, he hired people like Dog to look for you and bring you back.

He goes after people that have asked him to help get loved ones out of jail, and then we he gets them out of jail and they dont go to court he goes after them and puts them back in jail for bail revocation.
Then if he feels like they will "go the right way" he will bond them out again.

he does not "arrest" anybody.he is not a police officer. he is simply a bounty hunter- aka someone pays him to track someone down. it can be a criminal, he brings them back to the state where they have a warrant THEN the police can hold the person.

I think that "Dog" is similar to other supposed reality-based shows like The (un)Real World. Your question's good. I sometimes wonder myself. Maybe.
