I am three months pregnant and I am about 60 pounds overweight. I need to loose this weight. What kind of eating habits and what kinds of foods can I eat to make sure the baby gets what it needs? My doctor just says to keep eating but what do I eat? If I eat anymore I am going to be the size of my house!!!!!!

Girl it is too late for you to lose weight now. Your already pregnant, you should of thought of dropping that extra 30lbs-40lbs-50lbs-60lbs before you got pregnant. All you can do now is eat healthy, I said eat healthy, don't eat for 2 or 3. The doctors tell you to eat for one, just clean up your diet, whatever it maybe. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, salads, and healthy sandwhiches! And drink a lot of water (NO SODA). Also do some low cardio everyday. For example walk 30min.-1hr. a day, or do yoga, or pilates! I am 5 weeks and My mom and I walk 3 miles a day every other days. I am about 20lbs. over weight myself but I carry it well! I have lots of muscle and tht ways more than fat! So eat health and exercise, and that will help you shed the extra unhealthy lbs. while you gain the good ones, for your baby. The exercising is great, it helps reduce body aches and pains, and gives you more energy, and that is great when us pregnant women are always tired! Good Luck! You still look great! Rememeber you are still pregnant and you can't just think about you now think about your baby. Take proper vitamins, at doctors recommendation. Email me!

Please do not diet. You may lose some weight while you are pregnant because your tastes will change. I am overweight and pregnant and lost 16 lbs in the first few months. Now I have gained 3 1/2 lbs. What I did was eat something every 2 hours, like fruit or even some chips, but small amounts. Also, at lunch I make a wrap instead of using bread, for my sandwich and I eat half with chips, then the other half 2 hours os so later. Drink plenty of water and if you get tired of that, Crystal Light is good too... Congrats...

By the way if you breast feed after the baby is born you can burn up to 800 calories per day and lose the weight really fast. Remember, you will lose 25 to 30 lbs once the baby is born, everything has weight to it, from the cord to the amniotic fluid.

I was over-weight when I was pregnant with my second son. I managed to loose some of my excess weight while still remaining healthy for the child I was growing. I ate lots of fresh veggies & fruit, mostly organic. I also ate a good balance of protein. I really only cut back on empty carbs (refined sugar/flour products). I also did some extra walking, nothing that was going to hurt or strain muscles. Of course, I talked with my doctor about this too. I had a protein shake for breakfast (I have recently found that protein made with hemp or whey is better than soy, especially when you are pregnant... the soy will sometimes act like estrogen, and the last thing you need right now is extra hormones... ), and oatmeal with maple syrup (instead of sugar). Then lots of veggies and fruit throughout the day, and protein at lunch and dinner along with more veggies.

My son was born very healthy, I managed to loose about 20 lbs over the pregnancy and then continued after he was born. This program made it easy, and healthy.

Well when i was pregnant i was told that the baby only needs 300 calories, this are added to ur regular diet, now u should know that a milk shake or a turkey sandwish is about that many calories. Now eat more vegies, and fruits. Try to stop eating any type of junk food including ships, ice cream, candy chocolate, pop. And walk as often as u can and ur doctors lets u but don't ever stop eatin cuz thats not good for u or ur baby. and try to talk to talk to a nutrisionist. they can help u better to understand wats best to eat. I wish u the best of luck n remember that it won't be easy to loose weight during pregnancy but u will be able to control how much more u gain. N after birth u will be able to do a bit more to loose weight.

Hi! I suggest you cut out junk food, any processed foods, maybe invest in a juicer (juice machine) You use this to make fresh juices out of fruits and vegetables. NO fast food at all. Cut down on breads, cereal, pasta, In fact if you can stick to the juices, drink carnation instant breakfast packs with skim milk.... all of this helps tremendously! I know because I am doing all of the above and I am feeling much better. Walk, walk, walk, and walk some more! This is good for you and will not hurt baby. Drink lots of water and try and walk when the sun isn't at it's highest point in the day. I wouldn't recommend an actual "diet" while pregnant, just eat nutritous foods! Good luck!

Yep, dieting is not good while pregnant. You need to discuss this with your OB. Sometimes ladies who are overweight don't actually gain that much while they're pregnant. I know one woman who was significantly overweight and had twins. She only gained 30 pounds during the pregnancy. Not bad. Anyway, the best thing you can do now is eat a very well balanced diet and perhaps speak to a nutritionist. You are at higher risk for gestational diabetes, so it's imperative that you take care of yourself and your baby. Good luck and congratulations!

You should not be trying to get rid of excess weight while you are pregnant. You'll then be taking away from the baby. It's a good idea to have the baby first, then change your eating habits and get more exercise. Remember the baby first!

Pregnancy is probably not the best time to be actively dieting but it's great that you've taken the first step to a healthier life for you and your baby just by recognising that there may be a problem!

I'm a member of a UK slimming club called slimming world, and that's a diet that can easily be followed during pregnancy as there's so much choice and you can eat so much, it's great healthy food for everyone. If you're in the UK then look at their website for ideas

If not, you could ask your doc for a diet sheet as a guidline to healthy eating, or browse the bookshops for eating during pregnancy, stuff like that. Probably 'pregancy for dummies' and other similar books will have great ideas for your diet.

I actually just looked at some of my pregnancy books (just thought about it, no babies yet) and I found a sheet that my doc gave me with lots of food dos and don'ts for pregnancy, if you like I'll scan it and email it to you.

it is not a good idea to loose weight while you are pregnant, and if you are not on a exercises program right now, I would not try to over do it. If your Dr has not told you to loose the weight, then hold off till the baby comes. Just eat healthy, and take you vitamins and drink lots of water.

Talk to your doctor about a healthy pregnancy diet. You should not be trying to lose weight right now, it is not good for you or the baby. Basically just forget about losing any weight until the baby is born and concentrate on being as healthy as you can.
