I just shampooed a very dirty carpet thoroughly, and used the enzyme deodorizer to go with the Rug Doctor, but it still stinks. Not pet odor, but just a general dirty smell. I am drying it out now with a dehumidifier, and want to try something that won't make it look dirty again, and will eliminate the odor, not mask it, if possible. I am leaning toward Febreze. Does anyone have experience with this? Or other solutions? Thanks!

I'm afraid it may not be your carpet that's causing the odor. It's probably the pad under the carpet. I had this situation happen to me... your best solution is to have the carpet professionally cleaned and deodorized. Most guarantee their work, so if it continues to smell they will come back to try to fix the problem. If it's the pad, though, they will tell you that the only way to correct the problem is to install a new pad with new carpet.

plain old baking soda, sprinkle heavily on carpet and let sit for 20 or 30 mins. vac. up and smell will be much better unfortunatly this is a temporary fix but you can reapply as often as needed. also when you shampoo your carpets use only hot water, no soap the soap residue attracts dirt that sticks to the carpet. thats why after a few weeks it always looks dirty again.

Arm and Hammer is the best I have ever used. It has a really fresh and clean smell. It gets rid of the odor instead of just covering it up.

When you shampoo your carpet, put about an ounce of lysol, in with the shampoo that you use. When you are finished, your home will smell good, and it will help clean your carpet..Every time that you need to fill your container, add the lysol..good luck..
