Build up to it.

Start with five minutes a side for about a week or so and slowly add a minute or two a week

(Week two 7 minutes a side, Week 3 nine minutes a side).

When you get the tan color you want, all you need is maintenance at this point (back to about five minutes a side)

this depends on how naturally dark your skin is and how intense the sun is where you are tanning

you should always use a sunscreen and tan slowly - otherwise you will simply look like a lobster and peel and risk skin cancer

use at least a 15plus sunscreen to start and after awhile you can work down to and 8plus but stay with 15 plus on your face an ears and dont forget any hair part lines

if you skin and eyes are fairly light start off with 10 mins each side on the first day - you can cover up your body and face and do an extra 5 mins on you legs and arms

simply add 2 mins each day and you will get a lovely tan

if you are darker you can start at 15 mins a day each side

tan slow - it will last longer and look good

if you are in a hurry go and get a spray on tan or buy some self tanner to give you the look to start with and then still follow the above schedule - remember these products dont protect you

Dont bother, women want young skin so dont go in the sun beause sun tans age your skin 50 times quicker and within 20 years of having a tan it could give you skin cancer or straight away.Keeping your skin white is healthy

Actually, be careful out in the sun that you do not burn. It's ridiculously hot right now!

I also recommend, for a nice color, Jergen's lotion that does a gradual tanning thing for your skin. You simply use it as you would moisturizer all over, and it darkens your color over time (you can see a difference in a couple of days).

i dont think its a matter of staying in the sun for a long time...

i am very fair skinned and the only thing that has ever worked for me is on the first day sit outside for about 2 hours in direct sunlight and use a sunscreen of about 30 spf....

then you will get a little bit of color but not much...then the days after that i just sit outside with no sunscreen on my body but i make sure to put about a 30spf on my face to prevent wrinkles for when im older (yes i know that sounds dumb but my mom is 52 and her face looks like shes 30 so i trust her when she tells me to put sunscreen on my face ALL OF THE TIME)

make sure if you feel your skin burning to get out of the sun even if it isnt for those 2 hours. not only that if you get burned on one of those days dont go out again until it is healed. also make sure to moisturize because if you dont your skin with become dry.

No more than 15 minutes per side per day, IMHO. And, only three days per week.
