Yes the game will work for the PS2 cause it's basicly the same idea just modified to fit in with the other systems looks and tec.
But to save data of the game's progress you need a PS1 memory card.

Yes, playstation was one of the first console makers to introduce backward compatibility into their systems so your old PS1 games will work, but make sure you have an old memory card because the new ones wont work with the old games.

Well, I have had trouble playing any PS1 game in my PS2 if it has a blue coating on the back. One particular game I was thinking of is Silent Hill 1.

depending on how old the PS2 is, on the old ones the lasers are low
and have a very diffcult time reading them. if it was made anywhere form 2003 to now it should work fine.
