MIchael X: good point, and I agree with you. My question is actually more of a curiosity than a concern.

Some of it has to do with Christians blaming them for killing Christ which makes as much sense as for us to shun Japanese people because 80 years ago they went to war with us.

This is an interesting point. Christians were not allowed to practice usury (the lending of money for profit); it was considered a serious sin. The Jews, who had no homeland, found it difficult to find work. So, the kind-hearted Christians allowed them to practice usury. In effect, they were telling them they could sin for a living. The Jews did, became successful in the world of finance, and then incurred the wrath of the Christians for doing what the Christians allowed them to do.

In 1948, the state of Israel was established and all their Arab neighbors swore to wipe them off the map. So, the Jews fought back and are still fighting for survival. I am not a Jew, but I support their efforts to protect their country and way of life.

Chow!!

in europe, it was often a holdover from the christian belief that jews killed jesus, an a resentment of the jews' position vis-a-vis god.

societally, jews were not allowed to hold many jobs, except as tax collectors which only mae them more recipients of hatred.

mostly, poeple don't like jews because jews don't die out, don't give in, and are proud of what makes them different.

in other areas, resentment of judaism sprung from jews rejection of islam/mohammed and developed in parallel ways.

Their religion, culture, etc. In Medieval Europe, Christians accused them of killing Christ (ironically, Christ is a Jew).

The way they deal with money and business has also brought enemies, too, unfortunately.
