Does starting a child early necessarily mean they will be better than others who start later?

I don't care if my child is the best, I just want her to have fun with what she does. I am just curious if when you start makes that big of a difference.

not necessarily, but it definitely helps because for gymnastics, as I'm sure you know, you have to be really strong and flexible, and it takes time to build that up

Not likely, unless they're super good to begin with. But they would probably be super good any time they started if that's the case. I have a niece who started gymnastics at 3 1/2, I guess they call it tumbling then...but still she started.

Not at all!
Hope you're not a pushy parent - did you want to be a gymnast by any chance?
Leave them to grow up a bit and decide what sport (if any) they'd like to take part it. Why do you want them to be 'better than others' ? Worrying.

It seems like the kids who start earlier are the ones who excel at the sport.

Well, getting a head start on experience will give you an edge, but sometimes talent can beat experience.

Don't start too early--you don't want to hurt their development. Check with your doctor to see what age is best, because it can hurt their bones if they begin too soon.

45 years old...why because the masters catgories in gymnastics have almost no competitors and you get in the medals all the time...
