Being of German descent, I have grown up with Steak Tartare and I love it. It is amazing to see it on the menu at a restaurant - though i have only seen it at really fine German restaurants.

I make it with raw ground meat, some raw egg, salt, pepper and onion - delicious!

Peace!

PS - anytime you get a steak "Black and Blue" or cool and red inside that part of the meat is raw. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it is high quality meat and super fresh.

I have eaten steak tartare many times, and liked it. However, that was in the late 70's and early 90's before mad cow disease. I would not eat it today.

Oh dear, I thought Shrek was making that up when he told Fiona he makes a 'mean' tartare. I didn't know it was really a food.

I've eaten in alot of restaurants in alot of cities across the country and I've never seen that on a menu. They serve it to you raw? Yikes!

I love rare to med. rare steak but this sounds totally different.

Oh well, see I learned something new today! Thanks!!!

Have a good day!

In Poland is almost a national dish so I have been eating it since toddlerhood. The meat for it is extra lean and best quality so it taste delicious.
Now tatar (that's how we call it) is a bit out of fashion, possibly because cows went mad.

I love steak tartare, and you can't really get it anywhere anymore. Now the closest thing to it is Carpaccio which is usually raw steak sliced razer thin and drizzled with olive oil with maybe a spritz of lemon. It's fantastic! You can also get Tuna carpaccio or other fish.

Yes at Besch in Harrahs. It comes with a fried quail egg and spring greens stuffed in a potato gallett.

Steak tartar is raw ground beef. I have eaten it and I liked it. But it's so bad for you to eat it raw.

The thought of raw meat is disgusting!
Caveman discovered fire eons ago... even cavemen realized meat tastes better cooked.
I guess the primal instinct is still strong among many...

The thought does not really appeal to me, even though my Chinese blood tells me I should try anything. Maybe I'll serve it at my next BBQ since I'm not good at making fires!
