2 possibilities:
1. Dark toenail polish has stained your toenails. It's wise to put on a base coat of clear polish so color cannot be absorbed by your nail.
2. You may have a funus! I know it sounds gross, but it's actually very common. Nail fungus can be picked up just about anywhere. Medication for this can take as long as 9-12 months. The earliest you'll see results is in 3 months. It can also be unhealthy for liver function. Worst part? It runs app. $500!
Good news! There's a natural cure. Natural cures are always best. Soak your foot in a white vinegar and water solution every day. If you can do it three times, do. If not, at least once daily. Do this every day. It may take a while, but no longer than the medication would and it is a much better alternative. Occasionally before soaking, file the top of your toenail with a regular nail file. It will make the nail more porous.
The vinegar should be effective for nail staining too. Good Luck!!

Or it could just be that you've used a very dark nail polish..... black and such can leave a yellow stain.. Or like the girl above said, it's been on for too long and cuts off the oxygen supply to your nails or something? This can also happen with fake nails, but that'd be fingers... If you're that worried, get it checked out. But if its ALL of your nails, I'd say it's due to the polish. Give your nails a break, or stick to clear or pale pinks.

Yellow toenails are usually a sign that something is wrong. It could be a harmless bacterial colonization that cause a color change in nails (usually green). The fungi that like to grow in nails commonly produce yellowish or brownish colors.

Hey babe it it is yellow and it shouldn't be then it is sick and you should check your doctor or go to the pharmacy and buy a fungus cream to get it off. Don't shoe your toenails in public untill it comes off it is nasty.

It could be a fungus, unless you paint your toenails and they are just stained.
