It is a specialty item...I love it, but I doubt that it would sell well in a grocery store.

Yes, I have heard of rabbit stew. Actually I have seen my father go through the whole process of making the rabbit stew. From the killing of the rabbit, to the skinning and the cooking, and of course the eating. It is a very long process which is probably the reason why they don't sell them in cans and fast food restaurants, beside the fact that there is probably not a large market for it in the US. To me it is known as "Conejo en Fricasé" (Rabbit Fricassee). It is a staple of the Puerto Rican Cuisine. You might find the dish served in Hispanic restaurants like Puerto Rican, Chilean, Bolivian, Colombian etc... I personally like the dish.

Rabbit stew is one of the national dishes in the island of malta (small island off the coast of italy) it is wonderful...they slow cook it in red wine with herbs and vegtables, i have the recipe.
it was once a popular dish in the uk and france, my great grandfather owned a chicken and rabbit market stall selling them for stews and the like.
rabbit is expensive to buy esp. in europe, and it is vert time consuming to prepare rabbit as it has to be skinned by hand and what not.
hope this helps.

Rabbit stew is more popular in France so you might try some French restaurants.
