Read the book "reading between the lines" Watch talk shows listen to what is being said subliterally.

I've always belived that in every conversation that there is 1 to three streams of communication and always at least two/

1) THE OBVIOUS ----- what is in the speakers mind and intent of the conversation
2) The hidden message ----- The speaker makes metaphors or may allude to someting that you will only be aware of if your keenly listening or aware of the symbolism referenced.
3) The Subliteral --- Ti=his is the trully subconcious speaking while communicating.....it is somewhat metaphysical....The speaker is talking about for example ....The big brother tv show....NO SUBLITERALY THIS IS THERE SUBCONCIOUS MIND selecting this topic and they might not even be aware of it....So you need to ask your self where does this topic spring from???? Perhaps you job has just placed a video camera in your office. Your not addressing the video camera you or the listener might not even be aware of this reference point to both of you you are mearly speaking about big brother the tv show ....
But the subcncious is communicaing between you at a much deeper leveel

You see we speak and we speak in layers, if you only listen

Practice. You are a literal person if you lack the ability to digest implied information. What you could do is ask people to be forward with you. That way, you won't have to figure out implied meanings.

Yeah I have the same problem. It's called not being tactful. You might as well use it to your advantage. It's easier to say what you mean than to beat around the bush. (Which is why I like the way I am - No games, just calling it like I see it)

I mean the only thing that's going to help you is to observe how others imply information....Then practice. To my knowledge there's no secret to it.

Good Luck

when it comes to reading between the lines at work, I would suggest you not do that. that is "assuming" something which can get you into trouble. what you could do though is when you are given a task, that you reiterate to that person what you believe you should be doing so they know you understand, and that you do understand.
i think not being able to read between the lines at work is a good thing. when it comes to other things, you might wish you could.

Do you mean applying information. Maybe if you can't you should hope you win the lottery and never have to work again, because you might get fired if you can't apply the principle mechanisms needed to do your job.
