It seems to me an obvious thing to do and I've never been given one. I wish they would do that.

IQ tests are by nature very contraversial.

They only measure certain aspects of intelligence and experiential knowledge.

I have often wondered the same thing myself, especially when I am working with someone and evidence begins to accummulate that the person is just not very intelligent. An incredible amount of time and money could be saved if such people were filtered out before they are hired.

When the NFL is considering signing a college player they check the basics (speed, strength, etc.). So when a company is hiring someone who's job requires certain mental abilities why wouldn't they test the person to see if they in fact have the brain power required?

Not that IQ should be the only criteria. Education, experience, attitude, etc. are also factors but why not intelligence as well? It's much more objective than many of the factors that are taken into account when hiring.

I'd be curious to see if any human resources people have an answer.

It is given on some positions for job interviews.

But:
1) Just because you have IQ does not make you the best qualified employee to be
2) Executing your responsibilities and roles are more about consistency and character.. Not intelligence
3) IQ tests could be bias and not always a good benchmark of measuring a person's intelligence

Having a high IQ is ok for some jobs but it does not equal skill. For instance you could have an IQ of 140 but not know a thing about plumbing or being a butcher.

Some people aren't so great when it comes to taking tests. But, you do have a point, considering the SAT's makes you or breaks you for college acceptance. I guess most jobs either don't take that much intelligence to do; and the ones that do take intelligence, the employer just hires whoever has a degree in the field/graduated from a well-reputated college.

IQ actually has nothing to do with overall knoledge as much as your ability to learn someone with a high IQ would learn Calculas faster than a person with a low IQ. So even if your job is difficult if you have the ability to learn what to do as long as you have had appropriate education to do that job

Because intellect can't always be the judge. Common sense, experience, and overall personality are highly important factors as well, which an IQ test can't determine. Unless you're joining MENSA, I don't see why an IQ test would be necessary..

Having a high IQ usually isn’t a job requirement, having a certain level of education is something you do need to have. It doesn’t matter how smart that person actually is, just that they have completed a certain level of education.

IQ test prove you are smart - they don't prove that you know how to work - It would be smarter to give an EQ test instead

Some places make you write something in your own handwriting to see what you are through graphology
