my advice is to call the collections agency and explain your situation. Let them know that you are not trying to run from your debt and you realize it is your responsibility to pay however you are willing to make payments as long as they can work with you. They will probably tell you to try to borrow some money from a friend/family member but just let them know that is not a option. Also remember that by law you do not have to give them postdated checks. Sometime they will be pretty persistent with that but no where is there a law that's says that you have to pay that way and in fact it is illegal in certain states...all in all just be straight forward and don't promise to pay what you cant, tell them you know your rights and that you will make sure that they adhere to the FDCPA (fair debt collection practices act).

Oh man that is awful. How do they expect you to afford an attorney? You may have to contact the public defenders office and see what they suggest. I wish you the best!

call the attorney see if you can agree to a repayment plan, or go to a non-profit credit counselor who will help you get you payments down low.

They will work with you. It just gets worse if you avoid them.
