The heater core itself is probably fairly cheap, under a hundred bucks would be my guess and even less if you can get a good one from a salvage yard.

However, in my experience getting the old heater core out from where it's buried deep inside the dashboard is a pain in the anatomy, and could take several hours, and then you have to put everything back together. I'd plan to spend an entire Saturday and two six-packs on the problem.

You can block off the hoses to and from it and not have heat till the fall when you can make the decision. I would guess $250.00 to have it replaced at a shop, but you should get a couple of estimates. The labor is a pain, and the dash might rattle a little after you are done.

in part drain radiator, eliminate glovebox, eliminate accurate decrease sound insulator, unplug electric powered connections eliminate the ac programmer (electric powered field bolted to the heater middle cover) eliminate heater middle cover. eliminate the inlet and outlet hoses, eliminate the heater middle. installation in opposite order, carry out the air-mix adjustment if necessary. even as refilling the radiator, fill it, commence motor and go away run to get operating temp, placed warmth in warm variety, yet do no longer turn the fan on. Then after motorized vehicle is at operating temp, acceptable off the radiator. you go with to get each of the air out of the equipment. that is the acceptable way.
